Blu Cantrell/Sean Paul: “Breathe” | Turns 20

Featured Replies

Originally released in November 2002 as the standalone first single from Blu Cantrell’s sophomore album, “Bittersweet”, which initially failed to make an impact on the charts, “Breathe” was then re-released in February 2003 and this time featured Dancehall singer Sean Paul who had just scored a WW hit with “Gimme The Light” and was on the verge of scoring his second with “Get Busy”.

The remix version then went on to become a Global smash-hit, topping the U.K singles charts for 4 weeks as well as the European Hot 100 for five weeks.

European Hot 100: #1

UK: #1

IRE: #1

NZ: #2

AUS: #3

Holland: #4

FRA: #5

NOR: #6

GER: #7

DEN: #7

Unfortunately, the song wasn’t very well promoted in the U.S, and was only sent to Urban radio stations months after its initial release, thus peaking at #70 on the Hot 100 in the end.

Was just listening to it the other day, a shame it didn't do better in the US

Ahead of its time. :clap3:

The production is so dated but I love this so much for nostalgic reasons. Blu sounds so smooth on this.
