What is your opinion on straights co-opting gay culture?

I just dislike when they use slang but hate the group they use it from. This happens too much and its tiring. :doc:

None of that slang originates from the LGBT community. It originated mostly from African American women.

As long as they co-opt this hole.

I’ve had enough, it’s more common to see hetero couples kissing at my local gay nightclubs now than gay kissing. It’s basically “Bi” girls and their boyfriend’s night now. :rip:

Edit: I have no issues with some straight couples / people going to LGBT spaces from time to time, but there needs to be a balance. Straight folks have dozens and dozens of clubs they can enjoy, we do not. I would like a space where I can dance and be with other gay people, not be weaving between groups of straight dudes huddled together because their girlfriends dragged them to the gay bars because they wanted to dance without getting hit on.

Same.

My friends are largely female (and females who are supportive of the LGBTQ+ community), in the LGBTQ+ community, or are LGBTQ+ allies. I also don't go to clubs of any kind-- not that I'm above them; I'm just more introverted.

Also, I think it's great if more straight people went to gay clubs (without exhibiting toxic masculinity & internalized homophobia, obviously). The more allies we have the better.

I know it's easy to hate on straight people, and believe me, there are some truly homophobic and awful straight men (think: Andrew Tate), but there are some good-natured straight people that will accept you for who you are. Maybe it's easier for me to say since I've worked in education for some time, and it's a pretty liberal profession. I've also had the privilege of living in a liberal metropolitan area, and the schools I attended in high school and college were, for the most part, pretty left-leaning/liberal.

If it's a hot guy, I'm into it. Otherwise, it's annoying! :biblio:

I don’t see the issue with it. Especially when AAVE and black culture in general is being appropriated by the masses.

Straight people saying “yassss gawd slay sis!” isn’t doing any harm.

And straight people going to gay clubs isn’t either. Sure, they could be kinder when they reject you but who cares. On to the next. It’s nothing world stopping.

It's ok if they are respectful and understand they should NOT invade those safe spaces with their negativity and ignorance. Otherwise, get the f out

I dislike it. I think gay bars should remain a fun place, and also a refuge for LGBTQ. I think having so many straights makes the latter harder.

Also dislike them taking gay culture and slang. Especially when many that do are not even allies.
