Fuecoco Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Amazeballz! Waiting for it to come to the Switch so I can spend 500+ hours on it. The haters can remain hating if they chose. side note; Ravenclaw-ers rule.
Da Vinci Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Anti-woke fragile snowflakes claiming this as a win when there are POC and trans characters (that probably makes JK herself seethe) in the game
kawk Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 miserable sjws lost atrl lost TALENT ALWAYS WINS

To me personally as a huge HP fan this entire brand and franchise is tainted forever for me I am also a gamer and this game would probably be my dream game couple of years ago but I honestly don't even feel comfortable just looking at the hp books on my shelf and I doubt I would be able to enjoy this game even if I got it fot free. I am so mad at JKR and I am personally not able to separate art from the artist in this case because HP meant a lot to me as a gay person growing up and just knowing that the person who created that is such a bigot who targets the most vulnerable part of the lgbt community makes me so sad/mad/disgusted, no mater how you spin it, every HP success is tied to her This is no relation. The vast majority of people can't recall a single thing JK Rowling has said, nor do they imagine direct harm as a result their purchase. I think we have to stop propergating the idea that the vast majorities of people are heavily engaged with any of aspect of JKs politics or see this game as a reflection of it
Heartbreak Prince Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 In all seriousness, Harry Potter is an incredibly important part of many people’s childhood and adolescence. It’s the reason many people this generation like to read. Hogwarts Legacy is a dream come true for fans, finally getting to explore Hogwarts & be a proper student. There is absolutely no denying the Harry Potter IP has a significant place in the hearts of most people, and it is the least surprising thing ever that the game is demolishing sales. We all knew it would. A few people crying on Twitter because the author said some things they don’t agree with will never take away the impact Harry Potter has on peoples lives. The vast majority of fans have since removed JK Rowling’s views from the franchise anyway.
UnusualBoy Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 I will get the game when it gets released to Switch, it looks amazing. Is it open world?
Gaia Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Another example of cancel culture being useless and a waste of energy
Zayka Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Not surprised. Im hooked to this game, it's so so good!
Bussea Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 I’ve never been interested in Harry Potter but from what i’ve seen this game is gorgeous and kind of looks fun? Had no idea about the trans character

Pop Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 I’m glad the developers took actions to separate themselves from the miserable Joanne Rowling. Sirona Ryan is an absolutely wonderful trans character in game that doesn’t feel just thrown in and has multiple quests revolving her and even a background story quest where you can learn about her coming out process. I also love that there is a witch who mentions she has a wife and if you go exploring in the world you actually get to meet her wife and be a part of that story. There are also all types of inclusivity in the game, people of color, people with disabilities and they were all handled very respectfully. I was super against the game at first, but now I see it as a creative victory. This game is the fans reclaiming the Wizarding World and making it their own. J K Rowling might have created it, but the amazing team over at Portkey games made it better.

Gross. I agree… My BF bought the game and it’s really, really fun (sorry gals). I loathe J.K. but she wasn’t involved in the project. The game even features a trans character - I hope that deeply pissed her off. Come to think of it, the entire supporting cast is insanely inclusive. If J.K. had kept her mouth shut the game would be getting backlash for being “too woke” by nut job conservatives.

Cameltoe Chariot Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Newsflash: people can create incredible things and also have sh*tty views. Rowling is wrong in her opinions on trans people, but her work is separate from that and I think that the so-called "boycott" of this game only alienated potential allies and made people think online trans activism is unhinged. The boycott claimed: 1. The game is boring/bad/unplayable/glitchy: Not true in the slightest. It's an extremely polished, completely playable game right at launch. The story is rich, detailed and completely based in book canon. 2. The game is anti-Semitic/the goblins are based on jewish people: Goblins existed long before Rowling, and she was just using that fantasy trope along with a million others in her stories just like a million other fantasy series. In the game, only some goblins are bad, just like how some humans are bad. 3. The trans character Sirona Ryan's name was a pun on her being trans and was voiced by a cis man: Sirona is the name of the Celtic Goddess of healing springs, so the name being applied to the owner of The Three Broomsticks pub checks out. Also a trans actress did her voice. But now millions have now played the game and realized all these claims were bullsh*t, piled on to make the game and the whole franchise look problematic. It's too bad these activists didn't stick to the facts instead of getting hysterical and trying to convince everyone that the game was evil with outright lies. Oh well! Trans rights are human rights, but I fight for them by voting and advocating - not with pointless product boycotts
Rigalo Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Transphobe won and probably making 100’s of millions of dollars from this
Jessie Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 (edited) The way no trans person was ever saying boycotting this game was a feasible thing or would make any material change for trans people when the franchise continues to make bank regardless and were mostly just bemused by the whole thing. I mean just look at the embarrassing posts in this thread, the neediness you all have to justify stanning this franchise into your twilight years The point has always been seeing so many salivating over HP with this new game — particularly LGBT people — with Rowling’s ongoing crusade against overturning GRC reform in Scotland and all round aligning herself with fascists intent on eradicating us from public life, is kinda gross and y’know tone deaf, and then people got up in arms “I just want to play the game!!” Like who cares no one is checking for you, but if you are supposedly an ally and all I’m seeing on your TL or socials is about this game then at least except you’re going to be side eyed. And if you got trolled then welp I guess. Consumer choices do matter, like try buying The Sun newspaper in Liverpool — would any of you be boasting about only shopping Amazon “to own the libs.” Please Edited February 24, 2023 by Jessie
midnightdawn Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 "For me and many fans like me, any new Harry Potter content can only be a source of deep distress. People who choose to buy the new video game inevitably send a message that they care more about the Harry Potter universe than they do about the real-world fans Rowling has hurt — and especially the real-world harm that comes from bankrolling her transphobia. The endless debates around Hogwarts Legacy remind us over and over that the fictional magic of Harry Potter matters more, to more people, than all of the real trans fans and allies who have been displaced from participating in that magic by Rowling’s actions, choices, and behavior. Honestly, when the rumors broke of the TV show two years ago, even seeing tentatively positive reactions to the rumored series left me feeling deeply sad and uneasy. Now, regarding Hogwarts Legacy, I have chosen to opt completely out of the discussion over the game. The stakes are too painful; one must simply put aside one’s humanity to even begin to talk about the game purely as “art,” even though far too many people are eager to do just that." https://www.vox.com/culture/22254435/harry-potter-tv-series-hbo-jk-rowling-transphobic
