Did ChartMasters destroy stan battles on ATRL?

I feel like back then every day there would be arguments about which album/era is bigger but now that we have CM with a very well researched and accessible website, it seems that a lot of those discussions have now vanished.

Personally, I'm not too sad about it. I was tired of everyone having different sources (some being extremely inaccurate). For example: Folklore vs Positions would probably take like 20 pages and 5 bans, when its as simple as this:

5 Folklore Folklore
Taylor Swift
2,635,000
(11/01/22)
998,000 11,000
(38,000)
75,000
(500,000)
5,041,000
(02/21/23)
Av.: 5,110
LD: 5,540
8,760,000
13 positions positions
Ariana Grande
420,000
(09/27/21)
86,000 2,000
(7,000)
69,000
(460,000)
4,644,000
(02/21/23)
Av.: 3,220
LD: 2,580
5,221,000

People calling it "fake" legit are either mad their fave isn't doing well on CPSC, or probably just can't understand the methodology (and it's not very complicated)

But it's legitimately on the same level as Media Traffic. Unofficial & technically fake, but for many years held up by stans online as gospel.

I mean, who uses it outside of atrl and other music forums?

Does any legitimate institution or publication use their data?

Has anyone in the music business used this?

Does chatGPT use their data? Has CM been recognized by Google as legit?

This :giraffe:

If chartmaster would do the Hot100 it would be much more accurate. They know what they are doing.

I don't think anyone genuinely ever believed positions was as big as Folklore. Comparing it to evermore would make more sense, since they're both at 5.2M units.

ChartMasters is way more reliable than Media Traffic, which extrapolates from only a very small number of music markets. ChartMasters has been refining their methodology throughout the years and has been making effort to even count Asian markets that were often left completely ignored by other chart websites. All in all, excluding IFPI obviously, I'd say they provide the most accurate global numbers right now.

Yes. Fraudmasters is inaccurate and favors certain white blonde artists

More reliable? Without external validation, you cannot really say much about its reliability.

The data ChatGPT has used for its training is more than questionable so I wouldn’t use it as merit.

For sure, one should be cognizant of this fact and look at actual sources. Nobody in the real world would use CM to verify music sales data.

But for atrl purposes, it could work, I guess.

You can use your own logic and brain to tell what makes sense instead of relying on what CNN tells you.

First, I don't watch CNN so I don't know the kind of things CNN tells people. I'm guessing FOX, being on the other end of the spectrum, is the same type of media organization.

Second, yes, for sure, you can use YOUR OWN logic and brain for your OWN purpose. Unless you are an expert in sales tracking and data science, your own logic and brain do not really mean much to the rest of us.

Pretty much this.

OR maybe, just *maybe*. CSPC isn’t a real thing. That may be it as well. :rip:

As soon as literally ANY institution in the industry references it, then we can trust its validity. Otherwise, it’s literally just another random blog.

No :rip:

Chartmasters IS flawed and everyone who has been in stan circles for some time - knows that.

If anything, it was more accurate before.

It doesn't end arguments because they dont have the full information

and they have been clocked MULTIPLE times :skull: even by fandoms that support them now (Swifties)

only delulus think that CSPC is True in it's entirety :dies:
