Is the Rihanna hate getting weird?

Featured Replies

I don't see any hate, it's just people making fun of her mediocre show:penguin:

It's actually fun, because the haters have run out of excuses and now they're REALLY QUIET.

she’s not a good performer, her vocals are decent but nothing special, and she doesn’t write her own music, so i think most hate is justified

What GP acclaim? Y'all seem to be using the term 'acclaim' a lot but don't understand its actual meaning.

I love me some Rihanna but the way her fans on here have been trying to gaslight everyone into thinking that the performance was good just because it 'pulled numbers' is quite jarring to see. For some reason, I expected more transparency from them since they usually seem like a down to earth bunch compared to other fanbases.

It was a poor performance point blank.

Not me agreeing with you, but this :giraffe:

Acclaim from the reputable critics, the whole lot of TikTok generation, the industry people… The GP would drop her real quick if they didn’t like the show, it’s happened to pop stars before, instead she got this unusual boost from it.

Yall still acting like we’re pretending to like the show is a kii. Like I can understand how a Bey stan might find it underwhelming but clearly we’re here for it and we’ve been here for it. Along with the GP. It’s not like stanning a pop star that does hardcore choreo is a paid subscription or a members only club. If that was my cup of tea I would simply stan Bey. What’s funny is yall asking us to ignore all the positive reaction she got left and right and “admit” that the show was boring because it wasn’t what you “expected from her” Make it make sense…

She got an “unusual boost” because A) she’s the biggest star to do the SB since 2017, B) she hasn’t been active in the industry in just as much time and this was a big return to the spotlight, and C) she revealed her pregnancy. I think it’s quite clear that it was going to be a viral moment for her no matter how the actual performance was received. Because if you put the locals who would stan anything aside, I saw PLENTY of comments on YouTube, IG, other forums etc that were aligned with ATRL’s take. But at the end of the day, the show got people talking, and therefore she’s “winning.”

Navy still in denial. Your fave doesn’t have one single iconic performance, and Super Bowl didn’t change that.

This really isn't the worst thing anyway :rip: No one cares for "iconic" performances outside the stan bubble.

OT: They've always been hateful and dismissive towards Rih: Work, Diamonds, We Found Love etc were supposed to be flops according to this site. Rihanna was a one hit wonder in the making according to this site. She's not that liked on here which is fine but they do take it overboard with her most times and get angry that she's still standing and loved and successful.

It was a super meh halftime show. No guest artists, 99% pre-recorded vocals; it was basically just a best-of-Rihanna mash-up audio playing with some dancers.

There is no hate for her personally, people just think the performance was extremely underwhelming.

This.

I can’t even see hate, everyone kind of moved on after a short time. It’s only delusional Navy members trying to gaslight themselves into thinking it was some spectacular performance talking about it.

The performance was good. Rihanna has never been an amazing performer, but she played to her strengths and it worked. However, the excessive praise from the GP and the media when the performance was nothing out of the ordinary minus the production is more of a testament of how Rihanna is a GP and media darling rather than to the fact that her SB performance was anything out of the ordinary.

Some people are just tired with media trying to constantly praise mediocrity while at the same time shading excellence.

People will go out of their way to for instance shade Beyoncé calling her all kinds of names and undervaluing her talent and effort, yet have no problem uplifting mediocre **** produced by the likes of Taylor or Rihanna in this instance. Rihanna SBHT could’ve been done without her and it would’ve resulted in the same outcome since her presence or lack thereof added nothing to the show itself. Don’t @ me with those horrible, lowkey uncoordinated dance and hand moves

So Bey stans attack Rihanna because of people who aren't even affiliated with her in anyway shading Bey? And this makes sense to you in any way? This really sounds like bitterness and it's weird because overall Beyonce is more acclaimed and praised and has never received the kind of hatred and nastiness Rih has in the course of her career. Like who the hell cares, like and stan who you like but being insecure because someone you don't like/dislike is getting praised is beyond weird :deadbanana4:

It’s just an explanation as to why people are shady regarding Rih’s performance. You can back it up with stats all you want (which clearly speak for Rihanna), but trying to use stats in order to convince others something is actually good (when its not) is just phoney.

You, as a fan, simply cannot be satisfied/happy with that performance, like cmon now

I genuinely enjoyed the performance. Did I expect more? Yes. But it's kind of unrealistic to expect more than what we got from a pregnant woman (and I don't know why people act like this is a lousy excuse when pregnancy does affect everything in a woman's body and the fact that she was even up that high when an accident would have been horrible) than what we got. But I still liked hearing the hits I grew up listening to and liked the show Rih plus her team put up.

But even that aside you made a truthful statement. Maybe stans really are mad that Rih apparently achieves lots of success with seemingly little effort and I can understand why some would be bitter about it. Even then I don't know whether hating and disliking her for that makes sense, but like how sad (for the haters in that case since she doesn't seem to stop winning) and I don't know what would happen in that case? Rih flops into oblivion and is forgotten forever? That would appease y'all?

Hate? There's been like a few threads. You guys don't really know what real hate is, uh.

Beyoncé does get constantly praised by critics and medias.

People on this forum still pushing the narrative that Rihanna has little to no stage presence when she's one of the artists who exude the most magnetic presence, charisma and confidence on stage (and it all looks effortless) is precisely what this thread is about, so it's kinda funny you said this.

Also funny how majority of this site neglects how difficult (and scary) it must have been to be on those 60 feet high flying platforms, let alone perform and execute dance moves up there, without showing an ounce of worry. That alone takes weeks of rehearsals and is the biggest reason why her show deserves all the praise. Not to mention that Rihanna was several months pregnant doing all of this. Good thing the GP got it. :coffee2:

The irony of this post :bibliahh:

You do know what forum you’re on right? Y’all just loosely throw around words like gaslight for the sake of it

Atrl has berated Rih constantly since LMU till now, the anticipation for her to flop like most your faves was so transparent.

Yeah and the fact that they're trying to act like this doesn't happen is weird. We're the ones "gaslighting" :deadbanana4:

And that's why they're more perched than Rih stans themselves for her to drop new music because they will undoubtedly flock in there trying to tear whatever she releases down as they've done with every single Rihanna era only for them to end up wrong and Rih successful and them mad and the cycle continues whenever she's musically active.

It’s not only ATRL, I’ve seen so many viral TikTok’s making fun of some of her performances: her not hitting the note during Work, the SOS performance, the weird dance during Only Girl, etc

I don't see anyone hating Rihanna ever though? The Superbowl performance just wasn't good, it's not a crime to say that. Everyone still bops to her anyway

She deserves it for lowering the standards for the biggest stage of the world and of artist's careers, as if it was a high school cheerleading number. Her performance disgraced the likes of Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Gaga. She should be blacklisted like Janet!

This. :rip: The site has been vicious to her since the release of LMU and they're now claiming "it's just some threads"? They're mad we didn't dislike the performance and keep insisting we must be forcing ourselves to enjoy it, too. :skull: It's weird.

What hate? It's probably the same as it's ever been, but this time she gave people a real reason to drag her --a mediocre performance. But it seems like everyone already moved on? I don't see anyone talking about it anymore, just the navys still trying to convince themselves that it was good, iconic or whatever

It really is. It's almost like they want us to join in the hate fest they have going on and are even mad we haven't :deadbanana4:

I do appreciate that one person for being honest about it and being just like "yeah we hate that she gets praised for not doing much" because that makes sense. Like I really was confused how they were going in on her the way they have been despite them knowing that she was pregnant and the restrictions to movement and everything else that brings but like yeah they're just mad she's successful and don't think she deserves to be so they lash out. Still weird but that makes more sense than whatever else excuse the others gave :rip:

They just can't stand the fact she barely moved a hip to get second most watched SBHT and biggest boost while their faves tried hard.

500+ tweets about it in the past hour and 3M views on YouTube today. I really wouldn't say everybody moved on or that nobody's talking about it anymore. Y'all are the only ones trying to convince yourselves (that it was mediocre, bad or whatever).
