Apple's Popularity With Gen Z Poses Challenges for Android

Younger Americans prefer Apple over rival companies by significant margins, driving a generational shift toward Apple devices and social pressure, the Financial Times reports.

According to the report, younger consumers are concerned about being socially ostracised for not having an iPhone – a phenomenon that is driving young people to buy other Apple products and services, leading to growing market share across multiple product categories.

Those born after 1996, also known as Gen Z, compose 34 percent of all iPhone owners in the U.S., compared to just 10 percent for Samsung. For older generations, there is a relatively even split between iPhone and Android users. The ramifications of this shift toward Apple devices among younger people extends beyond iPhones, with these users being much more likely to purchase AirPods, Apple Watches, and Macs.

Is this only for the US?
Cuz I dont see anyone dragged for it here (and we know that Americans care about those stuff :toofunny3: )

I guess it does matter in the long run, even if kids grow out of the "dragged because of specific phone", because they will be used to Apple

but in the end, Xiaomi is going to push em both off it seems

social pressure

Not sure there's really any way to fight this. Even if Samsung was making the better product, how do you fight against Americans being the morons that they are thinking a phone defines your class status?

Gen Z is always on the right side of history 💋

Only in the US.

No doubt especially in the US. You were judged HARSHLY in my high school if you had an Android and it was legitimately pathetic :skull: Being called "green bubble" is incredibly demeaning

It’s always been like that though. Even dating back to the flip phone days, some were colder to have than others. And then there was the BlackBerry era. And now iPhone.

Android UI is just so damn ugly. Never going back to it. I love my iPhone 14

Now when it comes to desktop I would never pay that amount of money on a Macbook. Windows >>>

This is definitely happpening.

Gen Z all have disorders and are overwhelmed all the time they want a phone that is simple and to the point. Android is way too complicated and offers TOO much customization

Its always been this way though...lmao

Americans favoring an American company. Shocking.

iPhone is unpopular with Gen Z because it gets broken quickly, at least here in Central Europe so this is funny to me. Everybody has Android phone

It's just capitalism... A phone maker makes you cool or uncool, same as certain sneaker brands, or a certain backpack or a certain EVERYTHING. It's branding.

First world problems :clown:  If I was in such situation I would use having an Android as a privilege of not being a sheep.

They're including up to 27 year olds in this? Are people over 20 actually feeling social pressure to own a certain brand? School kids I understand, even if I didn't experience that at all when it came to technology or even clothes. You got bullied for everything except those things. But even then, school kids don't buy iPhones, it's the parents.

Embarrassing problem for gen z

I love my Samsung & Android. It offers so much more customization than Apple.

I mean, are you for real? it's even worse with adult people over 27 because it's not even about wearing or owning a specific brand or phone but having and show off a big house, then holiday-second house, owining a real estate, having big expensive car, this mentality will always affect and conditionate people even more in the adult life, social media totally reflects that nowadays, society pressure you to own a house, the more you have and show, the more you're being considered successful and a winner in life, it's not really that different from high school mentality, sure not everybody cares but the big majority does.

Is it that serious... :biblio:

Especially because Gen Z is woke about things such as social class... owning an Android should become the next culture war between Gen Z and Fox News so Tucker Carlson can keep enbarrassing himself :clap3:
