MONDAY AM: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania wound up hitting its $120M tracking projection from four weeks ago. Disney believes this AM that the Peyton Reed Marvel Studios movie will get there. Sunday was higher at $25.7M than the expected $24.2M and Monday is on track for $14.5M for a $120M result. 3-day revised is $105.5M.

It was cute in a Saturday morning cartoon way, and imo that’s not a dig. I had my milk duds, sour candies and large Diet Coke so I had a good time at the cinema.

Nice to see Marvel win & ATRL lose again. Admittingly this wasn't one of the best Marvel films,  but Paul Rudd & Jonathan Majors did both serve in the movie.

Lifetime gross in China will probably come in under the opening weekends of the first two. Safe to say they seem to be abandoning Marvel.

They’re not over but they’re clearly in a creative slump and it’s starting to affect box office. GOTG3 and The Marvels better be strong if they want to course correct. They can’t just rely on big first weekends, because that will always be mostly hardcore fans.

I actually really enjoyed the film, if Love and Thunder was able to be “fresh” and this wasn’t then I don’t officially trust rotten tomato  

 

the film had it faults but it’s by no means as awful as critics are saying, it’s not top tier marvel at all but it’s still better than the other two antman films.

If you’re comparing it to other marvel films no it’s not, but comparing it to the two previous Antman films its a hit.

Love and Thunder failed to outdo Ragnorak, Wakanda Forever failed to outdo Original and this will be no difference. I believe same will happen with GOTG3 and Marvels

Didn’t China initially ban Disney films for supporting LGBT people? Why would you celebrate China purposefully not embracing a company for its pro-LGBT views?

This has more to do with movie-theaters no longer being at their peak and a war happening that has skyrocketed inflation. Minions, Avatar, Disney films, Pixar films, etc. have all shrank in box office, too.

 

Plus, what matters is merchandise for Disney/Marvel. Ant-Man will never be big for them there, but GOTG, BP and Thor all did massive numbers there.

Actually it is a $104M 3-day and $118M 4-day. Which is once again, completely whelming and actually the 4-day is below expectations. 

 

A global $225M bow ($55M less than pre-weekend forecasts, $20M lower than Ant-Man 2 also) would mean the most this could make is like $550-560M. Under Ant-Man 2 is a lock. Under the first Ant-Man is also not impossible. 

 

For the introduction of the next Thanos level antagonist and start of phase 5...

Korea too. Quantumania will make about $90-100M less than Ant-Man 2 in just those two markets alone.

Nah you're not far off. Maybe not 70% but 63-65% for sure. Coming off an inflated Sunday (President's day holiday wknd) guarantees it. Films that release on this weekend (which inflates the debut a bit) only have like 2.2-2.4x multipliers from the opening weekend. Combined with the debut weekends of MCU films being very presale heavy, and yeah it will be a big drop regardless.
