Safest place to transition (trans issues)?

Is there a place that actually supports trans rights? I'm actually terrified to do it here

You mean, like, online?

I’ve lived in San Francisco and New York and they are very safe places for everyone in the community.

I think that metropolis or big cities are always going to be safer and more diverse.

Ignorant people have the tendency of staying in small towns or cities and they are uncultured and closed minded because they are rarely exposed to people who are different than them

This is not true.

The safest places are Germany, New Zealand, Malta, Canada, and Netherlands. There might be a few more. You want to go to a country that is actually safe, and has good social nets.

If you live in America, ErinInTheMorn has a resource here for the best states to live in if you're trans based on legal protections and safeguards for access to healthcare, etc.

Transgender people in these states are better protected culturally and legally than in other states. States like Hawaii, Colorado, and Washington maintain explicit transgender healthcare policies that cover surgeries that often go without coverage in other states. Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Connecticut, and California are currently considering policies or have passed policies that protect transgender refugees fleeing from other states.

Other states in this category like Illinois, Oregon, New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont maintain a strong history of transgender protections and show yearly legislation proposals to further protect transgender residents.

basically this but also the waiting lists for hrt in the netherlands are very long (several years) and it's currently very expensive to change gender/sex on legal documentation in germany.

i live in new zealand and even though people are ignorant about trans people, they aren't actually transphobic and are surprisingly accepting even if they're from rural communities. the healthcare could be better but hrt is subsidised by the government (because cis people use the exact same medications for different purposes lol) and it's easy to change gender/sex on legal documents. nz is definitely one of the safest countries for trans people.

Have you ever seen Lorde on the streets :chick1:

OT: wishing you to best & good luck on your journey, I also think Germany/Netherlands/NZ would be the better option.

thank you so much! honestly it's been a struggle accepting my real identity; I've done nothing but repress and isolate myself in fear of being attacked or anythign like that due to past experiences but I am ready to live. I am ready to move forward.

I get that it's scary thinking how others will perceive you but at the end of the day you have to live your life, not theirs.

I really wanna do this in Canada but I don't know where or how to even start

I don't know where you are from specifically but doing that outside of your country can definitely require a lot of money, I think that is the real issue, it's really up to your economical possibilities, since already moving to another country can be tricky per se, getting a visa, find a job, then you have to find a medical team that follows you so you might need to pay for a certain health care and all the relative medical expenses.

Like from that US map, it's not really surprising that California is one of the best State in the US to do that and live, but the costs of life is very expensive over there.

I know a few trans people and are very comfortable and supported in my town so guess Australia is too.  Always going to get negative people anywhere you go sadly but there are places who are fully supportive for it.  Wish you luck
