They really are incompetent when it comes to creating a decent story these days. I hate to say it but these famous prestige directors are kinda right. Ryan Coogler was the only film director who actually tried! Not the RT still being of Jonathan! there has been a decline in quality. messy scripts, bad VFX, etc. But the MCU is massive, like 30+ films at this point, of course some of them aren't going to be well received.
BNF91 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) Overseas numbers aren't pretty. China opening day- $6M (Ant-Man 2 OD- $22M ) Korea Friday- $970k (Ant-Man 2 same day- $2.8M) France Fri- Already dropped to #3 behind 3 week old local films. Doing about 1/3 of the box office of the last film in these markets. Pretty devastating. Global debut won't come close to the forecasted $280M. More like $220-225M. Let's see where the wknd numbers end up, but this reaching $500M is now not that guaranteed. Edited February 17, 2023 by BNF91

Very poor decision on their side to be honest.

I think its all boil down to the reception of GOTG 3

GraceRandolph Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 Audiences give it a B Cinemascore, the same as Eternals, and the lowest for the MCU.
Dark Phoenix Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 Love to see the MCU finally collapsing for so much mediocrity that they fed.
XAMJ Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 I loved the movie, I don’t get the fuss, it’s an improvement over ANTMAN 1 and 2

The MCU isn't collapsing, it's a multi-billion-dollar franchise. A couple of panned bombs aren't going to change that suddenly. DC has made a career out of those, the MCU will be fine.
OrgVisual Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 The overdramatics Ant Man has always been the floppiest series of the franchise, like where were u at? But it helps expand the MCU reach since it more focuses on Family than other films
Shelter Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 Marvel are in over drive. Too much releasing, but the quality isn't there imo. The last Thor was one of the worst.
SinnerCity Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 It’s time to announce the Scarlet Witch return!
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted February 18, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted February 18, 2023 Thor L&T has a fresh score??
Gorjesspazze9 Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 but atrl told me Marvel was collapsing 🤣
chris1991 Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 (edited) Letterboxd Quote Beginning to think the MCU is a money laundering front because WHERE is the budget going?? This is one of the worst looking films I have ever seen, even by Marvel standards. Incompetent across the board, and at 30 films in it’s inexcusable for the biggest franchise in the world to be churning out films this bad. They don’t need to be highbrow dramas or anything but they at least need to feel tactile and not just serve as a trailer for the next instalment. GOTG3 is looking to be the last breath of life this franchise has left. Quote It took me 31 films but I finally started to empathize with Scorsese. Edited February 18, 2023 by chris1991
BNF91 Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 So $225M WW debut with same multis as similarly received films like DS2 and Thor 4 would be around $500-520M finish. Let's see what happens.
Young Volcanoes Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 worst movie I've seen this year and I've seen 33 so far what a waste of time and money

Domestic isn't horrible but overseas is just bombing.. it will be lucky to reach $300M OS with the debuts it's having this weekend.
BNF91 Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 China worse and worse.. pitiful $7.9M Saturday and Sunday presales are ugly. It won't clear $20M for the weekend there. Weekend debut will be less than Ant-Man 2's opening day
