Nintendo joins $70 (USD) AAA game club with Zelda

They didn’t even wait until the new gen to do this. They claim this isn’t the new normal but lets be real, all major IPs will follow suit.

It’s particularly annoying because their prices rarely drop as is so it’s not quite the same as PS5/XBS starting at 70.

All dis and the trailers so far not even serving. It's still gonna sell incredibly well tho just bc the first game was so good.

That being said I'll pay $70 for Mario odyssey 2, please make the game Nintendo :alexz3:

Games are appropriately priced, or maybe even undervalued. Games are less expensive now than ever based off inflation.

Still buying it

eh it's still not very expensive for all the hours & quality you get out of a game like this

$70 for games targeting 720p at 20fps on a hardware that was already outdated by the time it was released... oh, it was bad.

The Switch needs a successor asap and Nintendo needs to stop cutting corners on technology to save money.

I swear they really like making it difficult for people on low income to get games to enjoy..... :chick3:

Australia has been selling games between $89.99 - $119.99 forever, hopefully this doesn’t shoot them up even more internationally. :biblio:

Considering they were selling games on the Wii for $60 a decade ago I think it’s time.

y'all can keep thanking miss Sony for this

Imagine charging 70$ for games on a piece of hardware that was outdated in 2017 :deadbanana4:

Meanwhile queen Metroid Remastered is only $40

Not buying this or any other AAA from Nintendo until they upgrade their hardware.

And this is the main problem. That’s why I don’t buy the new whole “undervalued” argument. Wait until you have a modern system to charge modern prices.

Not that it matters but wii games were $50.

When you actually deserve it because you serve quality, it’s not that far-fetched. This isn’t a Sony situation, love.

Plus, the prices of everything have gone up so obviously game developers are going to want more money. And seeing as Nintendo is increasing wages, I don’t mind paying when I know they’re compensating their workers fairly.

Games would cost up to $130 (with inflation) on the SNES, love. Imagine arguing that today’s AAA developers, who are spending significantly more than ever before on development, don’t deserve to raise their prices. The standard price for an SNES cart was $59.99. While I was enjoying seeing the prices on video games at the same level as they had been for 30 years, it makes sense that they would rise due to inflation.

What we should be looking at is how these increased prices are affecting the talent behind the teams. And as Nintendo has just announced wage raises for all of their employees, I am more than happy to support them in an inflated market.

As long as the increased funds go to the dev team I'd be okay with this...

Also sorry to physical-only buyers but I'm glad they tagged this to that voucher program so I can get this for $20 :fish1:

this is true, i remember paying $70 for Donkey Kong (with the rumble pack) on N64 back in the day.

Why is this a problem

the consoles we play on are 400 and up

gaming is an expensive hobby. Always has been :giraffe:

This is a problem because Nintendo games rarely go on sale. The other consoles discount their games a couple of months after release. :skull:

The Disney Adults / Nintendo Adults will eat it up, so it will be fine. At least Zelda should perform decently unlike Pokemon PS2.

The game is worth $70 if it was on a good console, like the PS5, and not a POS outdated poor excuse of hardware like the Switch.  Sucks for me because I’ll probably buy the game anyway :rip:

Switch has been kind of as scam

NES games back in the 80's were going for $49.99, so $70 in 2023 is really not that bad at all.
