For those using their significant other's or best friend's Netflix password, it's the end of an era: Netflix password-sharing is about to get difficult, with the streaming site actually set to crack down on this in early 2023.

 

In the company's earnings report released yesterday, Netflix announced that password-sharing will be made unavailable early this year, likely before March, which will restrict simultaneous use of Netflix accounts beyond households. Instead, the company is focused on pushing its paid sharing option as well as its lower priced subscription plan with ads.

I barely use my subscription but I keep paying for it because my sister uses it sometimes. I'm just gonna cancel when this happens, as I'm sure many passive netflix users will

I don't understand how this sharing of password works. One account is allowed to make 4 different profiles. Is this different than that?

They've been threatening to end password sharing for years now, but if they actually do it, it will be their dumbest decision to date.

 

Everyone I know that watches Netflix shares an account with other people. No one is paying a whole account just for themselves. It will tank their viewership numbers.

Like my family all share an account. Yeah, we each have our own profiles but isn't that still technically password sharing? Netflix is going to lose so many subscribers over this. This is gonna hurt people who aren't even doing what they're trying to crack down on

50% more would prob be great with them, do you think that many people will unsub completely now that they can't share?

(I genuinely don't know btw  I think it can go either way, but I don't think it will absolutely backfire as some ppl are saying. people who didn't want to pay for their own acc weren't doing it either way, the only difference is now more will be forced to)

Exactly like I’m currently staying in hotel EYE’M the one paying the account. So I cannot watch the Netflix that EYE am paying for because my sister is watching it at home? That’s so dumb.

How would they differentiate between an account that was hacked/someone using their Netflix unknowingly, and someone purposefully giving usage to a friend or family member?

Well I guess we'll see then as I said 

(also they already regained the subs lost in the first quarters of 2022 + added more in Q4 due to the cheaper ads version that everyone was making fun of as well.. don't get me wrong tho, I'm not defending their greed and they should focus on providing better content instead)

using multiple devices is fine as long as they’re connected to the same router

 

2 homes or 2 networks (home network and phone data plan for example) will be a no no

We the people shall unsubsribe in mass and watch Netflix crash. That will not only make Netflix switch back but most importantly make other streaming services twink twice before following the same path (imagine if Netflix succeeds, then others will follow so it's important to unsubsribe)
