This show took itself way too seriously and that was its downfall. Like where is the fun, where is the CAMP?

Bad writing, relying on the OG show then expecting the people to like it when it’s just ass. Yet never putting effort into the show itself. Good riddance.

This.

Honestly I think this had potential to be a fun popcorn show, but the writing was just terrible. The lead characters were awful and obnoxious, there wasn't a Blair or Chuck to keep you engaged.

At least season 1 was talked about it… mostly trashed but Season 2 went unoticed :deadbanana2: I remember how they tried with the main characters last season at Magazine covers or some media promo… I haven’t seen anything for this season they probably already knew that this show was over

What worked with a lot of the original storyline is now made almost irrelevant with social media.

I think this is the main issue. The concept of a Gossip Girl seeing you and taking pictures and whatever is already real to our lives. We live through it every day, and specially in Manhattan people know people all the time.

I live in a whole different country and I spent two weeks in Manhattan a few months ago and I crossed path with no less than 5 people that knew someone from my circles back home, imagine if you are part of the 1% :rip:

I think the problem with the reboot was that the cast was written to be more relatable and slightly down to earth despite the fact that nothing about their lives is relatable to the avg person.  The fantasy aspect of the show was constantly being crushed by this weird need to tether it to social movements and harsh realities that people honestly just don’t want to see in a show about escapism.

i'm guessing pll reboot will end after s2 too

This. The creator failed to listen to fan response from the 1st season. We wanted more camp/sneaky plots and less moralizing, more Monet and Luna, and less emphasis on adults.  Instead we got whole episodes focused on teachers/parents, and fan favorite students MIA whole episodes (Lunet) or trapped in a boring throuple.  The dad getting #metoo'd season 1 killed the vibe of the show and it never recovered.  It seemed like the creator had his own agenda that just didn't vibe with the audience.  Almost like he resented the "white privilege" of the original show, and wanted to "correct it".  But that's what people enjoyed about it. No one thought it was real life.

I was very sad about the degrassi reboot being cancel but this for some reason i just don’t care & that’s me watching season two right now :deadbanana4:

Nnnn this season was slightly better but I was only watching it as background noise. The OG won't ever be replaced

good!... that woke BS belongs in the trashcan

Hopefully empress Monet De Haan aka Savannah Smith will book another gig. She was honestly the best thing about the show and they refused to focus on her but everyone else instead of giving the people what they clearly wanted and now look what happed :bird:

Thank god I didn’t start the second season, I just didn’t have any interest after how the first one ended

The first season was really underwhelming. Not surprised at all.

It could be better to be honest, a GG reboot could work with better concepts.

They basically made a completely different show and then changed the title to Gossip Girl, that’s the vibe I got.  The fact that we can talk more about the larger social issues and parental problems within the first two seasons than about drama between the main friend group is sort of just summarizing everything wrong with the show.

they really fumbled the bag with this one. the modern era of nepo babies and influencers should be ripe for a gossip girl reboot, but the writers were obsessed with making the characters “likable” aka boring. and the focus on the adults was just weird

Welp…I’m not surprised.  They didn’t even try to make a good show with season 1.  Writing was cw level terrible…actually I think the CS had better written shows!

HBO should have hired worthy writers for this property!

I think the reboot has been just "okay" but that's not good enough, so I can see why it got cancelled.

The writing at times has been horrible though and some of the acting is literally BAD. Like that annoying teacher running GG and Zoya's father cannot act.

There was also too much focus on Julien (the shaved head girl) and she is just not cutting it as main girl. She has zero star power and the character is way too whiny and annoying to be getting that much screentime. The main girls should have been Monet and Audrey, but instead they were relegated to the sidelines??

The reboot did have some ingredients for success there, but the showrunners didn't take advantage of them. :michael:

I tried watching it. I just couldn’t get into it. What worked with the first show would no longer work with this version, and there weren’t any compelling storylines or actors/actresses that made me want to continue viewing. It could have maybe succeeded if they’d tied the original cast to it in a more significant way or set it in the past but they tried to make it some woke bs that had no real connection to anyone who lives a life outside of the 1%

Good. Enough reboots & remakes.

No Luna plotline No Season 3 :clap3:

I mean the new cast was just tragic

Not surprised, the show was awful, I was keep watching just for the nostalgia of the first one and some characters, but truly one of the worst teen drama ever made with a senseless writing, they were too busy in creating edgy lines without caring about making a decent plot.

Even with camp it wouldn't have worked. Prep school aspiration worked during the first recession when the original Gossip Girl came out and the entire cast had true star power, regardless of the narratives falling apart by the end of that show.

This was beating a dead horse in a very different time for the culture where there's a big backlash with Gen Z and Alpha to that, or they're just tired of it. The only one that grabbed me was Evan Mock.

What worked with a lot of the original storyline is now made almost irrelevant with social media.

Nah, you have 'Elite' (prep school set) that has been a streaming hit in the last years that is gonna release its 7th season this year, this was simply a bad written show even for trashy teen dramas standards.

It missed the fun, camp and intriguing vibe of the first, but most important it lacks plot, you finish an episode of this one and there's no a twist or something that wants to make you see or wait for the next episode, tones of uninteresting characters and boring-lame situations trying hard to be edgy-woke in a senseless way, also trying to make this show woke was the final nail in the coffin, it didn't make sense in the first place.

In the first season they repeated the fight between the two sisters each episode, not giving space to the only two interesting characters (Luna, Monet) and it was too late doing it in second season, not even well done it.

'Gossip Girl' also shouldn't have revealed immediately, what's the point of knowing who is behind it from the beginning?

HBO with its resources should have been done a sort of 'Euphoria' with a NY prep school rich setting + put a mystery-intriguing situation to solve for each season like they do on 'Elite' keeping GGirl identity unknown, the show would have worked, they failed.
