Is the beauty standard for gay men getting better or more extreme?

Beauty standards definitely improved across the board. There's room for improvement of course, but there's a lot more variety now for example in the modeling world and hollywood compared to 10 years ago. You said it yourself, "social media isn't real." Most gays in a relationship I know aren't six pack and muscular.

I don't think this is only a gay issue.

men in general are all facing this issue. Gym memberships have never been higher. Teens are starting to work out younger and younger. Everyone is desperately trying to look good.

Yeah. But I wanted to keep the discussion on gay issues. As straight men are always the focus on these things.

I think it's getting worse tbh

Way more extreme imo

The top beauty standard for gays remain to be muscular, tall, young, hung, and with caucasian features most of the time, and I live in Canada where it is supposed to be diverse and open to all kind of people. But I've also seen more and more gays being attracted to other races, which is a step to the right direction.

this topic hits home since i know many people including myself that are affected by this but with the onlyfans era in the gay community the amount of body dysmorphia going on especially from the people that already fit the stereotype and critique is astounding. i developed an episode during covid because of the way my body changed and became self conscious. like id say i have a average body type or "dad bod" but being told i have no excuse to have that body type especially if i don't have kids stung a bit

Sis, if you aren't ripped (6pack abs+), a twink with euro centric features or exotic by white gay standards, you are not considered attractive  in the gay community. With how the gays of today like to mask their insecurities and attempts at being brutally honest in shade, most of them lack empathy and the playful nature of old shade. So yeah the beauty standards are getting more extreme and you are more likely to be bullied or ostracized for not adhering to them. This is for the mainstream gay community, niche groups like bears and POC tends to be different however, those still have a big colorism issue, with lighter skintones being considered more desirable.

Racial ambiguity is coverted as the ideal, while whiteness is the standard.

I think on social media yes, but honestly when you go out into the “real world” there’s guys of all body types that will be your friend or date you.  I think sadly, even though gay body standards and beauty standards are extreme, a lot of the people who are deeply affected by them are projecting them outward into the world as well.  Whether it’s someone with an “average” body mad a muscle gay or toned twinks won’t give them the time of day or someone who does meet the body standard looking down in others bc they’re insecure.

It feels like racial standards have gotten better but body standards have gotten worse. It's crazy to me how the gay guys I know are almost all intelligent, educated, successful etc but what they prioritize is having a perfect body and being seen at every big party. And look at who gets idolized in the mainstream gay community: Instagram models on steroids and OnlyFans stars with plastic surgery, not business leaders or people actually creating impact.

Gays should continue leading the way on being hot, fit, and smart.

No point in shaming people for not having muscles. But, overall, being snatched should be encouraged. :chick2:
