Marvel’s Newest Young Avenger Explains what it was like for her and Ms. Marvel actress, after the 2 went on a dinner date and express thier feelings about MCU backlash and reactions over the past year/Phase 4.

Doctor Strange 2's America actor Xochitl

Gomez reflects on the toxic MCU fan backlash to her work in the film and how one other MCU actor helped. It was just nice to be able to have these shared experiences that made me feel like, OK, I’m not the only one. And especially with harassment and haters and stuff, and being able to be like, ‘OK, it’s not just me, this happens to you, it happens to a few other people as well.’ But it’s like, sometimes, when it’s in the moment, you forget, and it just becomes like this thing of like, ‘What is going on to me?' And it’s just so much worse for brown people. Because there’s layers of racism, and it’s just, it’s tough. And so being able to talk to [Iman] and be like, ‘You’re not the only one,’ and being able to show my support, and being able to kind of take her out to dinner, and be able to take her mind off it, be able to like release it all. And then afterwards, being able to laugh and just be like, ‘Look at the conversation we just had!’ Look at that, we’re laughing, and it’s great.”

Glad they could support each other :clap3:Superhero fans can be toxic especially towards women (even more so to WOC).

Ms Marvel was great and whilst Dr Strange was a little underwhelming, Xochitl was one of the highlights.

There’s absolutely layers of sexism and racism in a huge chunk of the backlash for phase 4 (especially Ms Marvel).

Unfortunately, there are some racist comic book fans (see Star Wars fandom) who hate seeing female leads - especially POC actors/actresses. Dr. Strange 2 had multiple shortcomings - mainly because it really should have been an hour longer or a tv show. I didn’t think she was particularly memorable as an actress but she didn’t do a horrible job either.

i think the only valid criticism is how they whitewashed the role, america is afro latina

its crazy that they get hate at all because ms. marvel and the introduction/inclusion of america chavez were without a doubt some of the highlights of phase 4. the treatment by the fandom on the other hand is not surprising which is incredibly sad.

the phase sucked and it has to do with 80% if the content..

Also Her appearances felt like a Disney Channel movie.

They shouldn't have cast her in the first place. The character is Afro-Latina.

I really do feel for her, and I hope Marvel provides legitimate mental health support for her and the other young actors and actresses they cast. That being said, there is legitimate criticism to be had for her casting in the first place. America in the comics is a darker skinned Puerto Rican raised character (now born in PR thanks to a recent retcon), not to mention older than she was introduced as in the MCU :coffee: the version of her in Multiverse of Madness is not good at all in terms of being an adaptation from the source material :coffee2:
