New Lies? Dua Lipa’s father spent 2 years negotiating daughter for Qatar World Cup

Featured Replies

“When pop queen Dua Lipa shut down rumours that she was to perform in Qatar, her duet partner and LGBT champion Sir Elton John no doubt applauded.”

Quote

“Yet emails suggest her manager father, Dukagjin Lipa, had been negotiating with the Qataris for two years to get the chart-topping star to play at the World Cup.”

Quote

“The documents detail how the singer's Kosovo-born fatheri, first approached Qatar's World Cup organising body, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, in 2020.”

Quote

On March 9, 2020, he wrote: 'I represent my daughter, the artist Dua Lipa, and I am keen to discuss with the Supreme Committee plans for artist performances for Qatar World Cup 2022.'

Quote

•In January 2021, he wrote: 'I just wanted to follow up on my previous email and was wondering whether it would be possible for us to discuss any opportunity arising where we can be of help?

By April that year, Mr Lipa expressed his anxiety about the negotiations, saying: 'I was approached… with a specific request for Dua Lipa & the opening ceremony & I wanted to touch base with you regarding this and making sure that we are not talking to the wrong person.'

Quote

“A committee member replied: 'It is fantastic to hear from you and know that with Dua being put forward it is backed by the knowledge that she is also interested.”

Quote

The revelations come after Dua Lipa's IG statement, claiming that a performance at Qatar was never on the cards.

Quote

'There is currently a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar. I will not be performing & nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform.'

Following the email revelations, Dua’s father responded:

Quote

In 2020 I had several email exchanges with the Qatari World Cup marketing team in my personal capacity as a festival organiser.’

Quote

‘Dua was not involved or aware of those exchanges or any other conversations. When I introduced myself, I gave them my full background which included my representation of Dua.’

Quote

‘But I clarified that I was not speaking to them with her in mind & made that very clear when they asked me whether my enquiries were about Dua.’

Quote

'This was in early 2021, at a time when Qatar had made several pledges to reform their labour laws & make amends to their human rights record.’

Quote

As the conversation went on and the World Cup got closer, it became very clear that these pledges were not going to be honoured so I stopped talking to them.’

Quote

Since then I have been approached by several people connected with the Qatar World Cup to whom I made very clear that Dua would NOT be involved.'

Fire him Dua

Mr Lipa seems like he’s been caught in lies  It sounds a bit hard to believe too that Dua didn’t know that her dad was in discussions. And I doubt her dad cared or had any concern about any labor laws.

It's clear what happened but people are playing dumb

Regardless,

She didn't end up performing, right? She made the right decision in the end. Even if she considered it at one point, her apparent good judgement prevailed.

Oh well he explained pretty clearly that Qatar did not meet the pledges and was hopeful they would. If anyone was deceitful it’s Qatar for making fake promises.

I guess money doesn’t buy honesty and respect:

She didn't know about those negotiations and ended up not performing there

She remains an unproblematic queen :smitten:

If the BTS army learns about this... :rip:

seems like ODHs are just desperate for any new fake info

As famous lyrical poet once said "Dua would very much like to be excluded from the narrative... one that she has never asked to be a part of..."

Inb4 shell say he did it without her knowing :coffee2:

Shes always "saying the right thing" after getting caught tbh

This non issue that ODH's and the most annoying people on twitter will surely eat up :rip: she didn't end up performing. Of course her father who is invested in her career and a huge football fan would want her to perform at the World Cup. There were talks and she still ended up not performing, which not all would do i'm sure considering what a great opportunity performing at the World Cup would have been. This just confirms she turned it down, so what now?...

Those negotions are ancient and from back when Qatar made pledges to be supportive of human rights. ODHs are truly losing it once again!
