R&B artists who missed out on pop hits

Featured Replies

Who are some R&B artists who missed out on potential pop hits from their albums?

Jazmine Sullivan has a few, but these would’ve been such big pop hits:

(This would’ve fit right on the radio with California Girls in 2010)

(Future Nostalgia resembles this so much. Dua even sounds like her in the second verse)

(This would’ve been all over pop radio in 2014-2015)

Ciara released “Thinking about you” a couple years ago and it’s her best POP release in a very long time. Had a very cute video and even went Top 40 on Pop radio. It just didn’t get the push it rightfully deserved, the song itself was also kinda critically acclaimed

Ciara should've destroyed pop radio with Overdose in 2013, Kiss & Tell in 2015, and Thinking About You in 2019.

Not sure if Janelle Monae counts as R&B or pop, but Pynk ought to have been massive in 2018. One of the best pop songs I've ever heard.

I feel like a lot of Lloyd, Victoria Monet, Janelle’s material would’ve been bigger.

+1 the song had a very similar energy to Call on Me by Janet, I feel like if it had been a single from The Evolution it would’ve smashed

If this had been released as the follow-up to Put It Down instead of Wildest Dreams, it would have smashed

Period! Been listening to this like crazy lately (& Stanley too) & thinking about how big it could’ve been. So good.

Stanley doesn’t give hit tho to me. Great song but it’s missing that pop hook

Came here to say Jazmine. She could be HUGE with a crossover hit.

Omarion with "I Think My Girl is Bi", that's a pop song through & through. Would've smashed on 2010,along with Tik Tok and others

not a doubt that reality show is top 3 for sure of best R&B albums of 10's. it's a MASTERPIECE.

Alicia should have released

- Lesson Learned from As I Am

- Empire State of Minds pt.2 (Broken Down) from TEOF

Both these could have been huge crossover smashes during her commercial peak
