POP EMERGENCY: "Anti-Hero" is one week away from tying “Blank Space.”

Featured Replies

As the lead single from 'Midnights' ("Anti-Hero") spends its 6th week at #1, it is one (number-one-charting) week away to become in a two-way tie as her longest-leader on the Hot 100 (tying “Blank Space”).

Blank Space (7 weeks)

Anti-Hero (6 weeks, so far)

Shake It Off (4 weeks)

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (3 weeks)

Look What You Made Me Do (3 weeks)

Bad Blood [feat Kendrick Lamar] (1 week)

cardigan (1 week)

willow (1 week)

All Too Well (Taylor's Version) (1 week)

Mariah/Brenda will be holding down December, but it will most likely have chances to return to #1 in January and tie "Blank Space" or even surpass it.

No one was forced to buy those remixes. It's not her fault if she has that kind of selling power.

You sound quite indignant.

Shake it Off should have had many more weeks at number 1.  Billboard had a rule that people that preordered an album after downloading a song counted as a negative sale.  Thus SIO's sales were handicapped.  It went back to number 1 the week they changed the rules.

But you would be able to name them by heart given your obsession

Taylor’s album tracks get better recurrent streams than many smash hits :rip: if even her deep cuts are remembered after a year and more, why wouldn’t Anti-Hero (her biggest song since 2014) be?

Not that I think Anti-Hero will be more remembered/iconic than Shake It Off, and also not that I think it spending more weeks at #1 indicates either which way. But it’s far too early to say this. It’ll still be one of her biggest hits and by default very remembered. Weeks at #1 come down to luck, anyway, as we can see here with SIO spending only 4 weeks when it was easily bigger than many 10+ week #1s :cm:

She did this while competing with Rihanna’s comeback single, Drake’s album bombs, and now Christmas songs :clap3:

If this was released earlier it would have scored multiple weeks at #1 easily and without her remixes. But she loves her competition, so, oh well…

Are you sure?

According to this, it says CMA affected the Digital Song chart, but not the Hot 100. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. I also don't see anything in that article about rule changes occurring that week. (granted, I didn't bother reading the whole thing)

I wonder if it could reach double digits? January is usually a weak moment so it can snatch the other 5-4 weeks it needs until something else takes off.

Probably not, at that point she might've moved on to Lavender Haze.

It's blocked behind a paywall for me, but I'm not 100% sure.  Just going from memory.

Taylor Swift-mania extends to the Billboard Hot 100, where “Shake It Off” rebounds 2-1 for a third total week on top. The song debuted at No. 1 on Sept. 6 and led again in its second week before spending the next eight weeks at No. 2, until this week.

“Shake,” released on Big Machine Records, dethrones the song that kept it at the runner-up slot in between its No. 1 ranks: Meghan Trainor‘s “All About That Bass,” which dips to No. 2 after eight weeks at the summit.

Official: Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ Debuts With 1.287 Million Sold In First Week

With Swift already making headline news thanks to the debut of parent album 1989 atop the Billboard 200 with 1.287 million copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and with Wednesday the day that the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100 is compiled, let’s take our weekly look at the numbers behind the top 10 and more.

With its third week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, “Shake” equals her longest reign. Her sole prior leader, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” led for three (also nonconsecutive) weeks in 2012.

While eight weeks in between No. 1 is lengthy, it falls just shy of the record for the longest wait a song has endured before returning to the top of the Hot 100. Last year, Miley Cyrus‘ “Wrecking Ball” spent two weeks at No. 1 following the arrival of its official (now-legendary) video. After ranking between Nos. 2 and 3 the next nine weeks, it returned for a third and final frame at No. 1 after a parody clip (with the song’s original audio) by YouTuber Stephen Kardynal went viral.

“Shake” reclaims the Hot 100’s summit with a 1 percent gain in overall points, while “Bass” drops by 9 percent. “Shake” leads Radio Songs for a fourth week (136 million in audience, down 5 percent, according to Nielsen BDS); holds at its No. 2 peak on Streaming Songs (10.8 million U.S. streams, down 3 percent); and leads the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart for a sixth week (3.5 million, down 5 percent).

(“Shake” falls off Digital Songs, which it topped for four weeks, from No. 15. Its slide is owed to iTunes customers who bought “Shake” and completed their purchases of 1989. Essentially, consumers who completed the album were returning “Shake,” translating to its sales chart slip. For the purposes of the Hot 100, however, aggregate sales contribute to the song’s overall point total.)

That should only help Anti-Hero imo. And unless they push it to #1 then I don’t see why AH won’t stay there, obviously barring new releases or Unholy/Made You Look catching back/up.

5, I suppose soon to be 6 weeks is already beyond my wildest expectations though

I'm always a bit confused when people say this. Is it not more logical that the longer an artist has been building a fanbase and establishing a record of hits, the more likely their new projects will take off quickly?

Off topic but I could have sworn the bathroom scene showed the scale. Am I making this up? I’m pretty sure it did but now it doesn’t.

This only proves that Billboard peaks and runs are pretty much luck and timing and not an accurate measure of success or relevance. SIO was a monster smash on the level of a 10+ week #1; it's a modern party staple and still referenced in the cultural zeitgeist.

The song is not bad, but it doesn’t feel like a smash at all.

SIO, Blank Space and WANEGBT and even Trouble felt like massive smashes.

This song will probably not be remembered, I feel like Lavender Haze or another one of the better tracks will out do it in the long run.
