US Military Returns to Philippines after 30 Years to Counter Chinese Presence

US military poised to return to Subic Bay, Philippines after 30 year absence, to counter China’s presence.

The US military is likely to return to Subic Bay 30 years after relinquishing what was once their largest military base in Asia, due to concerns over China’s increasing maritime assertiveness, a top official of the local body overseeing the free port zone said.

Manila and Washington have been in negotiations over setting up five more locations in the Asian country to build US military facilities and preposition weapons under the Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement.

Rolen Paulino, chairman of the SBMA, told Kyodo News on Wednesday that he would be “very surprised” if Subic Bay does not become an EDCA site, as “during war, time is of the essence,”

He said tensions over the Taiwan Strait and the growing animosity between the United States and China are causes for concern.

In before someone calls the USA imperialist even though they are considering to do this at the request of Philippines, who have been relentlessly bullied and militarily threatened by China for years now

It's so funny how Duterte and Marcos' bases are anti-US but now crickets. The military knew US is the lesser evil and the better forces:bibliahh:

If this thwarts China's imperialistic expansionism, then go for it!

This tea. :clap3: They will call anything that the United States has done in the Philippines as "imperialism" but ignore all the aggression that China has shown toward Southeast Asian countries. Ironically, the people at my college that were like this were American leftists and they were always so condescending toward anyone who was actually from Asia.

At first I wanted to laugh but this happened in Ukraine. Middle class Average Joes that felt the war in East Ukraine was so far away from them were getting drafted. It could happen to anyone. Nowadays I feel like the war drums are beating.

Russia and Ukraine.

Taiwan with China saying they may use force and China holding their biggest ever military drills in the area.

It just keeps going on.

It's not imperialism if far-right leaders indentured to the empire want to be a satellite state :clap3:

Here it goes again, USA in other countries business, spending trillions of $ on that army, while their own people suffer every single day. Sorry, but the fact is the country who never cared about their own people will never care about others, they just there for some political stuff and personal gains.
