And I would certainly much rather that you only vote where you are familiar with the music. Though this also an opportunity to check out new music! Maybe it was the wrong call, but is there a particular breakout moment for her this year that you think would distinguish it as Best New Artist eligible? I was shocked to find out recently that her first Latin Grammy nom was in 2014 Like I knew she'd been around for a while, but not THAT long... He had a #1 hit in this eligibility period, his first major chart smash, so clearly it was a breakthrough year for him into the public consciousness. Sabrina Claudio was submitted once before, during the “Unravel Me” era. She made some longlists, but scored no nominations, and finished almost last among the Best New Artist crop during the blue ribbon panel. I was willing to consider that she was still coming into a new level of awareness for ATRL. Sabrina Carpenter songs have been submitted twice before, by one person each. She’s never been submitted for Best New Artist previously. Her emergence as a mainstream pop artist this year made her an easy call for inclusion. Shygirl was nominated for Best New Artist last year.
