predicting AIW serving the longevity lineage:

2021: Blinding Lights

2022: Heat Waves

2023: As It Was

I don't see it happening. Blinding Lights and Heat Waves benefited from the extended pandemic, which favored a singles market over an albums market. With the pandemic essentially over, I think we are headed towards an albums market (akin to 2016-2018). Lil Baby, Taylor Swift, and Drake is just the beginning (just like 25 and Purpose at the end of 2015). We will be seeing more big artists with huge album numbers in 2023, and as a result, less longevity of songs on the chart. AIW won't make it far past 52 weeks, and I won't be surprised if Wasted on You ended up with more weeks than AIW. We have already seen AIW fall out of the Top 15 with Midnights, and it is probably going to fall out of the Top 10 with Her Loss. AIW is going to be vulnerable starting in its 53rd week if a major artist (like Rihanna) drops an album.

could you elaborate more about this point please? like more people listen to the full album instead of singles?

Lil Baby, Taylor Swift, and Drake

they are the biggest of the biggest artists alive so what we've seen so far are outliers. And CLB did this a while back when HW charted right? I don't see the difference here. As long as songs are kept on radio for a long time + streams within top 25, i think they can be safe.

not y'all calling a number 2 debut a flop

So Proud Rih, number 2 with a funeral lullaby, your faves could never. Other than Mariah.

Except Swifties admitted it meanwhile Navys and OTHs went back and forth denying and put all the blame to her label and Disney. At least we are not hypocrite. Now Navy become a complete clown, not just LMU serving the biggest fraudulent we've ever seen it also failed to hit #1 despite all those desperate tricks. :gaycat7:

The lie detector test determined that was a lie

Just a reminder to the Rih fans that bringing up ME! or Willow isn’t the gotcha moment y’all think it is. ME! pulled genuinely massive numbers all around the board (incl streams) and Willow’s streaming difference between the song it was fighting for #1 with was negligible. So her fighting for the #1 in both cases was more than justified, though both were embarrassing and literally all of us admit that.

Not at all comparable to the Navy lashing out over people calling out the initial questionable numbers (we were called conspiracy theorists and then proven right) and not accepting the L here. Also not comparable to LMU’s attempt when it was carried by the biggest radio launch of all time (relative to debut vs AI levels) and streams were way behind Anti-Hero, especially On-Demand.

And tbh I’m in no way even making fun of y’all here, Rihanna’s debut isn’t even bad. The tactics they pulled make it look bad, but it’s still not like she debuted at #50 type of ‘bad’. It’s just the aforementioned comparisons are just tired, it’s not giving what y’all thought it would give. Rihanna will have more chances at #1 whenever she releases her album or even just another properly promoted single that is better.

I agree it’s dumb to compare it with ME! or Willow cause neither were soundtrack songs.

Does someone have a list of movie singles that debuted Top 10 on the Hot 100? I know Can’t Stop The Feeling debuted at #1, Skyfall at #8, I Don’t Wanna Live Forever at #6, Sunflower at #9

She Likes It finally goes recurrent, along with Glimpse of Us.

Thriller fails to match its 2021 peak, charting at #26, much lower than what the predictors had. Monster Mash charts at #47 and Ghostbusters at #49. This is Halloween fails to chart, although it has been gaining a lot of momentum the last few years.

The most delusional people in here

calling a #2 song a flop

Saying it was all because radio when it was # 2 on streaming, #3 on sales and #6 on radio

Saying it's not comparable to willow when that only had good streaming numbers and sales for 1 week

It's the exact same thing. Just diferent strategies. Rih didn't have her singles sold for cents. Taylor didn't make a radio deal

…exactly, meaning it was a strong contender for #1 that week :rip:

And Willow actually ended up having decent longevity (poor for a #1 obviously but still), being #55 on the year end list and top 10 on HAC and AC year end lists.

If anything Cardigan might be a better comparison if y’all want to engage in stan wars :turkey:

It should be pointed out that Rihanna's last big hit before her hiatus, Wild Thoughts, also peaked at #2. Oddly enough, all of Rihanna's #2 hits were blocked by some of the longest running #1 songs of all-time:

Pon De Replay - blocked by We Belong Together (14 weeks at #1)

Run This Town - blocked by I Gotta Feeling (14 weeks at #1)

Wild Thoughts - blocked by Despacito (16 weeks at #1)

Lift Me Up - blocked by Anti-Hero (could this be the next 14+ week #1 that blocks RIhanna)

Not with Mariah in the way

Also Taylor will probably push  another Midnight single for #1 in January

I don't think that Anti-Hero will be that big or be able to hold onto the Top spot with the Drake album bomb + Holiday season around the corner

Rihanna might snatch a week at #1 like Poker Face did
