Broken Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 (edited) Shazam's budget: 80-100M Edited October 23, 2022 by Broken
Bloodflowers. Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 More than Margot Robbie's last two DC movies
Bloodflowers. Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 if it wasn't for box office heavyweight The Rock attached to this film, it would been DC's biggest bomb at the box office yet
politeone Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Isn't Shazam! the much more known property? This is some obscure villain to the non-comic fans. These are solid numbers, DC isn't dead. This is good for a first movie
Arcadius Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 The movie will probably end up around $400-$450M globally in the end. That's not a complete bomb but for a $200M budget it won't break even. However, it is on par with Shang-Chi and Eternals from last year so there's that.
Repelex Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 67M for a movie about a villain GP knows nothing about and in a franchise that has struggled with maintaining a faithful audience is not the catastrophic event you're making it out to be. The thing it's gonna keep it from turning a huge profit is the budget.
Johnny Jacobs Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 It will still make more than Eternals for sure
Broken Posted October 23, 2022 Author Posted October 23, 2022 Black Adam: Starring DWAYNE "THE ROCK" JOHNSON aka "box office magnet" aka "the biggest movie star in the world" (according to DC stans) Budget: $200M Opening weekend: $67M Shazam!: Starring Zachary Lewis, a nobody. Budget: $80M-$100M Opening weekend: $53.5M "Solid numbers" .

The real issue is the budget which was obviously overblown and as I said in the Taylor Swift’s Amsterdam thread; studios need to learn how to set budgets appropriately; but this ain’t no Morbius no matter how the ODCUH try to spin it.
Gorjesspazze9 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 This is decent at best, just like the film itself. Not bad, but not really great either
chris1991 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Good enough. Black Adam is a niche comic book character (a villain to a B list superhero) so I wasn’t expecting earth shattering numbers! Marvel built so much goodwill with the first movies in their universe …. Even their C list character’s film did great! DC films is a damaged brand at this point. Alsooo superhero fatigue is a real thing. Unless the film is avengers level they’re all going to do mid numbers!

What is lacking is his international draw this time around but i guess the strong dollar doesn't help.
JBJT2786 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 It's 140 M WW and it's got 2 more weekends before BP:WF will come a destroy everything. I'm still wondering why people were expecting this to open bigger? The Rock's biggest opening before this is the Mummy Returns ( Furious 7 doesn't count cuz he didn't have a significant role). So expecting him to do better than 68 million opening weekend in the US was dumb. If they're lucky it'll break even before it leaves theaters.

Blue Rose Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 The mental gymnastics by that Marvel stan to make this look bad. This is huge
