Hector Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 (edited) Nielsen Ratings released Sept. 29 paint a highly successful launch roughly compatible with Dragon (precise comparisons are nearly impossible because of several factors we won’t bore you with). One industry insider familiar with Amazon’s inner workings suggests The Other Fantasy Show’s performance is more anxiously followed than the company lets on. It was never about the critics, it’s all about consumers,” the insider says. “All Jeff cares about is consumer obsession. If you look at the history of Amazon, every division lived and died based on that … Dragon matters because all of a sudden there is a benchmark. It is their closest comp to success. When they saw Dragon grew in its second episode and brought in 20 million viewers, they were shitting their pants.” For Payne and McKay, Dragon is a wearisome topic. They were making Rings for years before HBO declared in March that its Thrones prequel was going to debut two weeks before their show. Suddenly, the media and fandom world wouldn’t stop talking about Dragon vs. Rings because, let’s face it, everybody loves a fight. “It dominates the narrative about how it’s received,” McKay says. “But it was not at all part of the narrative in how our show was conceived. Hopefully, we’re competing against ourselves.” The Hollywood Reporter Edited October 6, 2022 by Hector
KnightOfAllRealms Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Jeff deserves this L because LOTR was boring as **** It was sooooo generic in comparison to HOTD
Arcadius Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 I don't even watch HOTD yet every Sunday nearly my entire timeline is talking about it. Very similar to how GOT dominated social media. I saw people tweeting about ROP in it's premiere week and haven't seen anyone talk about it since.
SpankGangsta Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Its inevitable tbh, they both air at the same time. HotD had the GoT series fandom while RoP has massive purist n media hate i am just enjoying both series on its own and so far its great. HotD has better actors while RoP has better visuals.
Bubble Tea Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 I love having them both on at the same time - two exquisite shows at the exact same time, what a treat! Plus Handmaids Tale dripping out, I've been eating so well!
kawk Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Talent won. Easily the best tv series of the year. RoP feels reductive.
♚ PRiNCE HiGH ♚ Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Someone tag that obsessed Targ/HotD hater

narid Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 There’s so much good stuff in that article for Tolkien fans, but not surprised the key takeaway is setting HoD and RoP against each other. They are both great shows in their own right, and a treat for fantasy fans to have both shows to watch. RoP has been the target of so much trolling - racism, misoginy, you name it - which is completely beyond what any TV production has ever experienced. The fact it’s pulling in the numbers and the praise, premiering with higher numbers that HoD, is a huge achievement and fully deserved in the context of so much unwarranted hate.
