JBJT2786 Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Not surprised at all: https://deadline.com/2022/10/dwayne-johnsons-black-adam-box-office-projection-1235135454/ Quote Given the wonky marketplace, studios haven’t been really bullish about putting advance box office projections out there. No one wants to get over their skis. However, New Line’s DC Dwayne Johnson movie Black Adam is tracking to a $65M-$70M opening according to industry sources. Black Adam opens on Oct. 21, and it’s the first major tentpole we’ve had since Sony’s Bullet Train during the first weekend in August. That pic just crossed $100M. The pic is very hot on tracking now, like a one-eyed giant in the land of the blind. Meaning there’s nothing else like it right now. The movie is strong with guys over and under 25, then women under 25, Latino and Hispanic moviegoers and families. If the pic exceeds $68.1M in its domestic start, it becomes Johnson’s best solo opening after 2001’s The Mummy Returns in which he had a cameo as The Scorpion King. Anyone expecting this to do Morbius numbers was def delusional but it will be surprising if it does better than 75M considering the Rock has never brought in more than that Mummy Returns gross opening weekend. Reminder that Black Adams budget is 185 million. So good luck to this.
aayAlex Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 yikes. warner bros is OVER universal are gonna need a lot to fix this
KFC Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Very sad that this will be a flop but the damage done to WB/DC's brand is irreversible at this point
zaso Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 i haven't seen any hype for this anywhere so this was expected i guess
Gorjesspazze9 Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 I wasn’t expecting this to smash so it’s not that surprising. Even with star power from the rock. A lot of people were hoping this would save dc from having another dud, but looks like it will be another one
Jude Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Their fault for choosing The Rock play the role. He's awful.
Broken Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Another BOMB for the DCEU . The never-ending nightmare continues.
ALA Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Uh $60m+ opening sounds solid? Wtf this was never opening to $100m
Danny789 Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 (edited) I’m gonna watch it but Black Adam is such a terrible character to give a movie to. The way the rock is playing him is correct, there’s no personality there. Edited October 5, 2022 by Danny789
Stan.killah Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Predict decent US numbers with worldwide numbers pushing it to profitability. They love The Rock around the world
Martyr Of Fame Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Somehow he was always stays here. I can’t stand it.
Dark Phoenix Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 That would be his best opening outside of the F&F saga, even Jumanji 3 did $59M and that was riding on the good reception of the sequel. I hope they do hit $70M and then get to $200M DOM and $350M WW for $550M final which is not bad but neither terrific, the film will need at least $400M to break even.

I mean The Rock managed to get DC Super Pets to $200M WW so I'd be shocked if Black Adam doesn't scratch at least $500M. The one thing this movie has going for it is the fact that The Rock has a massive WW following.
