WildOne Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I've never understood why they let their biggest IP's hype come and go in a week when they could make like every other streamer and spread it out.
RainDreamer Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I might just subscribe now, but they need to bring back Dark Crystal first
Miles. Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I hope this comes to fruition. I understand that some people like binging, but I much prefer the slow-building hype and excitement of weekly releases. It makes discussion, speculation, and theorizing so much more fun. I think that Netflix should do weekly releases for its biggest shows like Stranger Things, The Witcher, and Bridgerton, as well as genre shows like Shadow & Bone, Sandman, Umbrella Academy, etc, and big reality shows like Too Hot To Handle and Love Is Blind. And then do binge dumps for YA shows, murder mysteries, miniseries, documentaries, and smaller reality shows. I think that would keep most people happy while giving them the weekly hype that shows like GOT, The Boys, and now ROP and HOTD are getting.
EnigmaticAndroid Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 As others have said, this could be good but they need to keep up their quality. Or at least have enough strong projects to to sustain a year-long schedule with whatever cheap lil shows they have keeping the binge format.
MrDog Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I need to binge watch Emily in Paris season 3, tho

It quenches the "binge" portion by giving you more than one but still allows the hype and anticipation to be drawn out over several weeks Also this. The 2-part release for ST was wonderful

For ongoing series’s make it weekly but miniseries make binge viewing since it’s a one and done. This. I'm down for this decision though. The online discourse is always better with weekly releases, and this will hopefully slow down all the trash they're churning out and force them to go back to serving quality since they're have to keep viewers coming back every week.
rta1913 Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 This could work well for some shows. Like "Umbrella Academy" and "Stranger Things" can be a weekly release. Hold the suspense. Also works because those episodes are long. Other shows that are more light-hearted or shorter episodes like for example "Never Have I Ever" are better in a binge-mode release.
toy soldier. Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I'd personally love this as I feel like it'd create some hype and cultural moments in TV that have been missing for a while
Harmonizer Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I honestly don't watch some Netflix shows until month's after they premiere because if I have to binge 8-12 episodes I need time to do that. I can't always do that the weekend of release. So I support this.

RihRihGirrrl Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 They should release 2-3 episodes at a time

Komet Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Wtf no I hate weekly releases like it's 1994, give me the whole thing and I'll decide at how I want to watch it. 3eps in one day every week would be ok I guess, anything less then that no
Breathe On Moi Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 ummm wouldn’t it be the same thing if you just wait for a month to start watching say show and have the 4 episodes there already to watch?

Gaia Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 No. To be frank, a lot of their shows are mediocre but you watch them because you can binge them. Having weekly format gives opportunity for people to dislike shows and stop watching after the first 1-2 episodes. It's going to lead to their shows losing popularity and even more cancellations than they already do
Anye Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Netflix is known for the binged watching. Idk if this is a good idea.
Mellark Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I am fine with it. I don't realistically watch the whole season all in one day unless it's a show I really like.
Musicmajor Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Pros and Cons to this I guess. I prefer the binge method but business wise I think it'll work in their favor. It'll allow for less spoilers to be out there for people to avoid too. Their nose dive has been incredible this past year lordddd.
Horizon Flame Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 They’re having to cut costs to avoid bankruptcy, which means fewer new shows. They obviously want to stretch the content out as long as possible.

People literally eat up all of their series but the hype only last for two weeks. After everyone has seen it, then that's it. It's done . Yes. the hype about squid game lasted all of what... a month? same with Stranger Things 4. I remember wanting to dress up as a squid game character last year for halloween... the prices were through the roof.... then come November everyone had dropped it and moved onto something else. Netflix already has some established brands. this is a good move imo.
