KFC Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Binge viewing is most of their appeal their catalogue is pretty terrible nowadays and they have less and less great original shows so this would probably put the nail in their coffin
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted September 9, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted September 9, 2022 I don't particularly care, since I've never binged one of their shows in a single weekend anyway. But this would certainly mean they could pull back on developing so much content. And ultimately, that's what this is about: cutting costs.
Solaria Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 If they actually give shows more than 8 episodes for character building then yes I could get behind this. I miss the old days of shows like PLL where you had to wait and the suspense was killing you
scenekiller Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 This would probably help them in the long run as long as they start keeping their show content high quality People don't mind waiting for the Euphorias or House of the Dragons or whatnot, it just has to be worth it

Cable and basic TV was appointment TV while this you can watch anytime. This is better because it keeps the shows in the viewers mindset for more than just a week. This is why those hbo shows and shows like the Boys stayed talked about more than just a week unlike any Netflix show not named Squid Game or Stranger things Also hopefully this ups the quality cuz Netflix has been hit or miss on its shows lately.
Oxy Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Tbh, I prefer weekly release but I want them to mix it up. For ongoing series’s make it weekly but miniseries make binge viewing since it’s a one and done.
TaggedGalaxy Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 It's like they are actively trying to kill their own company as quickly as possible
Badgalbriel Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 This is the best thing they can do. People literally eat up all of their series but the hype only last for two weeks. After everyone has seen it, then that's it. It's done .
selena_lavigne Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 this would be the nail in the coffin. netflix has taken a NOSEDIVE since 2021. still a loyal subscriber cuz Elite, You, Sex Education, Shadow and Bone, and Umbrella Academy are still airing
Heartbreak Prince Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 This could work but they need to seriously keep their quality high to keep people entertained. Also, they need to not cancel things a few weeks after they premiere. Let them build an audience then consider whether it's worth renewing or not.
Starshine Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I've always preferred this method. It's more of a live-TV approach and becomes more of an event.
magazine Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Didn't they do this with Stranger Things already? It obviously makes more sense to space out episodes. But they really need to figure out what they want: either raise prices or end binge shows. You can't do both and expect people to enjoy it
Beyonnaise Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I've never liked a whole season being dumped at once. There's no suspense. Sorry but not all of us have the time to devote 12 hours to a season right when it drops
Gossip_Boy Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Well un-consider it. I’m way too impatient to be doing the weekly episode thing. That said it’ll probably be beneficial for Netflix if they go down that route.

Every decision they’ve had made this year has been disastrous… EDIT: If they choose to do this with new series, then that would at least make more sense. But if it’s for an already released series, then release it in full. Edited September 9, 2022 by Crank_It_Up
Sugden Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 binge watching makes these shows hype last so little
schnetzka Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Binge-watching was always one of the appeals of Netflix. Take that away and then people will dislike it even more.
