ExtraChapstick Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Anyone who has taken up gaming as a hobby knows it's easy to get swept up in hype around the next big release, a deep discount, or a recommendation from a friend. It's even worse in the age of digital downloads. There's just not enough time to finish (or even start) every game we buy. What's in your current backlog? Of those games, which have you started, which have you not even touched, and which do you plan to give up on entirely?
Dragonfly Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 I'm quite the opposite I usually buy 1-2 new games a year Every few months I return to an older game and play it again
Attitude Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Too big to list. I have games dating back to the N64 that I never finished.

How do you decide which games to buy, and how do you avoid getting swept up in the hype of other big game releases? Are you super clued in to your favorite genre(s)? And what are some of your favorite games to return to? I find myself going back to play older games as well. 1 minute ago, Attitude said: Too big to list. OhMyAlf Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Far Cry 6 (Started for an hour) The Evil Dead (never even opened) Deathloop (played for a couple of hours) Elden Ring (never opened) And that's just the PlayStation ones... I don't even want to think of the Xbox game pass games I want to play
ExtraChapstick Posted August 25, 2022 Author Posted August 25, 2022 While I've certainly seen far bigger backlogs, I need to discipline myself. I have quite the mix. This doesn't even account for the upcoming games I have my eyes on. ? I've started adding new releases to my wishlist and not buying them at launch unless I'm ready to play. That way I can take advantage of sales and think about the purchase longer. I'm also considering watching Let's Plays of some of these games instead so I can experience them in some manner and move on. Green Lights (I'm very likely to play/beat at some point): Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes God of War (PS4) I'd love to beat it before Ragnarok comes out. I'm new to the franchise. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Little Nightmares II Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Yellow Lights (I may or may not get to/get back to them): AI: The Somnium Files (plus the recently-released sequel) Buried Stars Danganronpa (everything after the first game) Days Gone I've started it a couple times over the years. Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles Doki Doki Literature Club Famicom Detective Club (The Girl Who Stands Behind & The Missing Heir) Guardians of the Galaxy Hades Horizon: Zero Dawn Kena: Bridge of Spirits Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy Marvel's Avengers I've started the main solo campaign over a few times but haven't ever finished it. Octopath Traveler I put a significant amount of time into it but set it down for a while and haven't picked it back up. I'll likely need to start over. Persona 5 Royal I'd definitely like to play it but it's a massive time commitment. Persona 5 Strikers Shadow of the Colossus Super Mario Odyssey I've owned it for 5 years. Maybe someday... Tales of Arise The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles The Witcher III Tomb Raider (the reboot series) Uncharted I've only played the first, but I own the full collection. Red Lights (It's likely I'll never play or pick these back up): Assassin's Creed: Origins Cyberpunk 2077 I got fed up with all the bugs before all the patches. I have the PS5 upgrade now but haven't returned. Dark Pictures: Man of Medan & Little Hope Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory The first one was super lengthy and Digimon Survive came out recently. Different genre, but it's scratching my itch. Dragon Quest Builders 2 Fire Emblem Warriors Hitman III Kingdom Hearts III Little Town Hero Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris World of Final Fantasy: Maxima

I also managed to fly under the Elden Ring hype, but I think I'm going to watch a Let's Play of it so I don't miss out entirely. It's perfectly ok to start and never finish a game, but I'd love to curb my habit of buying games out of excitement, then never even starting them. ?

I was finally ready to get into the backlog of games and then picked up Saints Row just from the hype of a new release coming out and I had no intention of even buying it before

It's a bit of FOMO mixed with slight intrigue. Chasing the high of excitement. All the gaming blogs, Twitter, etc. are talking about certain games and I want to be part of it. I need to get discerning about which types of games I'm most likely to get extensive enjoyment out of, as opposed to maybe 2-3 hours of fun before I put them down and get distracted by something else. I think I've figured out my resolution for 2023...

popmusicisdead Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 i've slowed down from gaming since 2018. when i was still living in Japan, i had a budget each month for PS4 games. i mean i only finished TLOU2 earlier year. i've been mostly playing PC sim games and Crusader Kings 3. anyway i want to get back to playing again soon since i'm taking a break from work. here's my list. - Sekiro - Elden Ring - Ghost of Tsushima - Horizon Forbidden West - FE: Three Houses - Persona 5 Royal - RE: Village (started RE7, RE2 and RE3 remakes, didn't finish a single one ) -Spider-man/Miles Morales - i also want to finish Kingdom Hearts 3 before the new one comes out but i have at least a decade to do that

bluevelvetcrowbar Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I'm so bad with finishing games nnnnnn As soon as a release I've been looking forward to happens, I drop everything to play it. Currently, that's Digimon Survive rn for me, though I'm finishing up the True path so I'm almost done. Although Soul Hackers 2 is out and I might play that next fjfjfkfkdk but for now, my backlog is: Persona 5 Royal (on the final boss) Persona 4 Golden (on the final boss) Fire Emblem 3 Houses (just need to finish the Golden Deer and Edelgard routes) Neo: The World Ends With You GTA 5 FFX-2 Fire Emblem Warriors Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory Nier Automata Nier Replicant

Alldeezy Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 I own every sims game from 1,2,3,4 and I dont use discs anymore because of downloads I've finished most games but growing up was lot of ps1 games I couldn't finish because they were hard. Got a very long list. From gameboy color, gameboy advance, ps1 ps2, ps3, ps4, couple of xbox 360 & one games. I need to finish most my kingdom hearts I seem to have ditched all my console games for destiny 2 & sims 4 lately. Even most my switch games haven't been finished lately.

ninasayers Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 (edited) An insane amount tbh; games are quite cheap on the argentinian Steam store, and i always buy them on sale + Epic Games gifts so many games i've gotten over 100 for free on there. But anyway, these are some of those i haven't finished/started playing: Outlast 2 Resident Evil 0, 1, 4, 6 and 7 (i don't think i'll ever finish the first few ones 'cause the controls are just awful) like 20 Lego games (literally) The Half Life games (besides Alyx) Subnautica All the amnesia games The 4 Batman games The Witcher trilogy Crash Bandiccot n sane trilogy Devour, Occult + other random multiplayer horror games 7 Days to Die Dead By Daylight Aragami Ark Bioshock trilogy Borlderlands 2 and pre-sequel Destroy All Humans the Deus Ex games the Doom games besides Doom Eternal Tomb Raider trilogy (the new one) + some random older ones Dying Light most of the Elder Scrolls games The Evil Within 1 and 2 Fallout 1, 2, 3 and New Vegas The F.E.A.R. trilogy Just Cause 2 both Left 4 Dead Mad Max both Middle Earth games Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Painkiller saga Portal 1 and 2 SOMA the Stalker trilogy a bunch of random Star Wars games including Jedi Fallen Order XCom 2 Plants V Zombies: Battle For Neighborville And a bunch of other ones, it's wild. Kinda overwhelming lmao. Edited September 11, 2022 by ninasayers
