Hector Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 (edited) “House of the Dragon” drew in 9.99 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max after premiering with one episode on Sunday, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. This viewership tally includes linear airings, as well as HBO Max streams during premiere night. OH WOW Well deserved, the premiere was a cultural reset! Edited August 22, 2022 by Hector
Eóghan Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 In comparison "Euphoria" season 2 premiere did 2,4M and season 2 finale did 6,5M. So yeah it's a slay.
Arcadius Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 (edited) And there were people calling this a non-event and saying that it would tank. What a smash! Edited August 22, 2022 by Arcadius
Donquizote Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Critics lost again Currently sitting 69 in metacritic.
Guest Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 See, this what happens when you hire writers that actually care about the plot and themes, instead of boring jokes about eunuchs or "bad *****"
Musicmajor Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 yeeess! I was (slightly) worried it wouldn't do well, just because of season 8. But i'm glad people gave it a chance and hopefully it will continue to rise!
Miles. Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Great news! They really subverted expectations by writing a great opening episode!
Badgalbriel Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Remember the thread saying Euphoria was bigger than GOT
Relampago. Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I need to watch this! Didn’t know it was out already, even though I’ve been seeing ads EVERYWHERE.

Hector Posted August 23, 2022 Author Posted August 23, 2022 (edited) 22 minutes ago, Billionaire said: Is this bigger than Stranger Things? If we were to compare this to the Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 premiere from Nielsen: Aligning the two episodes, it’s clear that Disney+ had a solid start with projected viewers in the average minute on Friday. In that case, the first episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi achieved a 4% advantage over the corresponding Stranger Things episode (6.2 million total viewers vs. 6.0 million total viewers) and won the first full day of availability. However, looking at the entire premiere weekend tally, Stranger Things Episode 1 attracted 12.7 million viewers in the average minute versus Obi-Wan Episode 1’s 11.2 million viewers. https://www.nielsen.com/insights/2022/nielsen-streaming-content-ratings-special-report-stranger-things-and-obi-wan-kenobi/ Considering the time period, I do think it was bigger than Stranger Things 4 for both Volumes 1 and 2. Stranger Things 4 Volume 2's numbers: Translates to about 8 million viewers in the first 4 days under the Nielsen system. Edited August 23, 2022 by Hector
est. in 90s Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 A streaming fad it is NOT! The fact that it also smashed on cable as well is extremely impressive. Not everyone has that. A true smash hit
