How and when? :rip:

This is domestic, it's not even internatinal. Also, not the box office I'm talking about, she could score millions more at the box office with whomever she's taking the lead on, but she still won't be taken seriously as an actress, because she's not one and that's my main point I was trying to say in the other post in response to why she doesn't do better roles as if this was something to do with jlo herself.

No Marvel payola :clap3: the way "I'm Glad" hitmaker makes you this angry :dies:

I guess your fave actresses are blonde white actresses who appear in seious films like Gwyneth Paltrow, Michelle Williams etc ?

Why do you assume that? Just because I brought up the fact that Jlo isn't a serious actress? :rip:

As if a Latina actress like JLo had those same opportunities !

Atrl is too obsessed with race. It has nothing to do with race in this case.

Hollywood wants her to be a typical Latin bombshell. Either she plays those roles or she doesn't get cast (has no job)... Period ! Name me one Latina actress who is respected in Hollywood and appears in those respected Oscar drama .... I can only think of Penelope Cruz and she only has respected roles in Spanish movies - Penelope Cruz's Hollywood movies are Pirates of the Caribean, Gothika, Nine etc

Remember Selma Hayek who was JLo's peer .... And who actually got an Oscar nomination for appearing in respected dramas ? Where is she now? What movies is she doing now?

Penelope isn't latina btw, she's considered a white European. Salma turned down many roles to devote her time to her family. But she IS an example of a serious actress with talent that I'm talking about.

Now, since you asked, there is more than one well respected latina actress in hollywood like Sofía Vergara, Rita Moreno, Mercedes Ruehl, Lupita Nyong'o, Ariana DeBose and I'm sure there are more names out there.

That said, racism exists in hollywood as much as any other part of the world, but in jlo's case, that's just not true. :deadbanana:

That member @A.R.L really thought they made several points by posting that link with the box office chart with Top Grossing Stars Domestically, in which “the figures represent the total amount of domestic revenue generated by all the movies a star has appeared in over their lifetime.

Looking at J.Lo’s number and putting it away like it’s some ‘horrible’ box office achievement is ridiculous, as they’re actually awesome box office numbers. That list includes everyone and their mother who showed up for only a 3 minute scene in a 3 hour Marvel movie that grossed a ****-ton at the box office, even adding that to their box office totals. And funnily, to @reymiu's point, “serious” actresses like Michelle Williams are still listed below her on that chart.

Then, in an earlier post the member @A.R.L inferred people only showed up to J.Lo’s movies anyway because of her co-stars being huge and them drawing the crowds vs. Jennifer herself. Perhaps, instead of pulling up the box office chart above, they instead should’ve pulled up below chart which makes more sense in line of their leading actor/actress argument.

Top 100 Stars in Leading Roles at the Domestic Box Office

This chart contains the top 100 box office stars based on the cumulative domestic box office of all the movies a star has had a leading role in over their lifetime.”

187 Drew Barrymore $1,065,438,493 31 $34,368,984
188 Jennifer Lopez $1,063,853,837 27 $39,401,994
189 Jake Gyllenhaal $1,060,102,198 31

$34,196,845

https://m.the-numbers.com/box-office-star-records/domestic/lifetime-acting/top-grossing-leading-stars/101

She’s positioned beautifully between other leading Hollywood icons like Drew Barrymore and Jake Gyllenhaal with $1.064 Billion and that after having been a leading actress in 4 less films then both Drew or Jake. That’s amazing!!

Take the Top 400 actors and actresses from this whole chart, remove all the male actors from it and she’s at #47 which is really good!! Below her are some of Hollywood’s fave Oscar and Golden Globe winning actresses (of which two were her co-lead) Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Diane Keaton, Jamie Lee Curtis, Salma Hayek, Viola Davis, Halle Berry, Michelle Williams, Renee Zellweger, Barbra Streisand, dame Maggie Smith, Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren and I could go on and on…

Point being made, she is still one of the Top 100 Hollywood Leading Actresses at the Domestic Box Office, whether she has won Golden Globes/Oscars or not and whether you like her or not.

You're aware of the fact that there are actors with minor supporting roles that have made a bigger impact, right? Therefore, that list I posted is still valid.

And it's a fact, those movies jlo did wouldn't have made it without oscar winners like george clooney, jane fonda, matthew mcconaughey, jon voight and golden globe winner richard gere and oscar nominee ralph fiennes ? This is also why all of her high grossing films have all of these people in them or other popular people unlike when she's working with less interesting people.

Are you serious?  Having jlo in movies with bigger/respected actors and big animated movies, whose revenue was also counted on that list, and ranks similar to or even above other actresses with much more impact/success/critical acclaim and RESPECT will not make jlo the respected actress or that she'll ever be taken seriously.

Just look at those oustanding names below her and have some shame.

I mean.. even beyoncé was above jlo when jlo put half her life into acting:rip:

1. A supporting actor in a movie (like many Marvel films with a gazillion people that show up for a few scenes) might’ve made ”bigger impact” on the box office but that doesn’t make that specific supporting actor/actress *is the* box office draw.

2. Nonsense! Sure, it’s the chemistry and the combination of the two leads that make a movie good and pull audiences, but you act like J.Lo’s movies were only successful *because of* her co-leads (which kickstarted our discussion). There’s a definite reason J.Lo gets cast in films as the lead because studios or streamers do the math / run the numbers to see what clicks with audiences. She’s very bankable, otherwise she wouldn’t be booked as a lead for more than 2 decades! This is the point I’m trying to make and you keep brushing over.

Also, you named legend Jane Fonda as an example of one of those actors on the list who drew audiences in for box office revenues *yet* she is lower on the list (below Jennifer). Make it make sense! In addition, some of these films, including Monster-In-Law, the co-lead booked the gig after J.Lo was already booked (aka studios signed her on because she’s bankable)! Jane Fonda has spoken about Jennifer saying she is the one people tuned in for (“people were gonna see it because of Jennifer Lopez”) and that she’s thankful because it gave her a comeback (video: at 17m55s timestamp):

3. I’m not talking about these lists making J.Lo the “more respected actress”. You are the one that started pulling out box office numbers to make it a point that Jennifer is not a bankable *leading* actress and that her movies are only a success because of her co-leads. I was just rebutting that’s incorrect by pulling up the correct receipts and a ranking whose methodology is based off female actresses that played the lead in a movie, and excluding the ones where they had just a very tiny role or showed up for 1 or 2 scenes.

Beyoncé is above J.Lo on that list because of The Lion King, which alone grossed more than half a Billion in the box office. But that doesn’t mean queen B is a bankable actress. No one is saying audiences flocked to see TLK *just because* Beyoncé played a co-leading role in that. Come on now.

In regards to your “have some shame” comments. I definitely won’t! There’s amazing actresses on that list that are above and below Jennifer. :clap3:

Which is why you shouldn't take that list seriously,  even me, though I don't like jlo, I admit that list wouldn't be a fair receipt against her from a beyoncé fan. :rip:

Of course we can take that last list with just the female actresses in a leading role seriously when talking about box office success / bankability of a star. It’s a topic and list you brought up in means to discredit her. The receipts do show actual numbers and with some critical thinking around the type of ensemble cast and type of movie it is (animation, Marvel, Disney or whatever) it’s somewhat easy to deduct which factors contributed to a stars box office success. Not just your easy “ANy CO-LEad oF JLo MadE HeR MovIE AN ACTuaL SuCCeSs, NOt BeCAUse of HeR!” :psyduck:

I'm not even talking about that, but the fact that jlo isn't doing better roles is because she's not taken seriously, she's not the frida actress, u don't need the box office numbers to admit otherwise..

I thought it was gonna be released straight to Amazon Prime but there is screening?

or it's just a premiere thing?

Looking in IMBD: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt9686790/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_dt_rdat

It shows that it will have a theatrical release in a few European and Asian markets before debuting in the USA on Prime, I guess that those deals were already done and the rights for international distribution were signed before the Prime deal, but anyway I’m not expecting much from those small markets, maybe $10M final, the biggest one is Germany.

I saw a billboard on the street that says this movie is premiring in cinemas on 26th of December here in Croatia! I might drag my current date to see this with me sometime in January on one of our dates

Watched this on Thursday and it was so fun!! It was so nice to see Jen in an action-comedy. Her chemistry with Josh was great as well, but the true highlight of the film is Coolidge!

So glad that it was shown in theater in my country.

Just watched it and its such a fun silly 2000s chick flick. Its better than Sandra Bullock 's The lost world & Julia Robert 's Ticket to paradise, fellow 2022 chick flick with leading stars.

Theres some laugh out loud moments, Jenifer Coolidge and the supporting cast is hilarious, JLo and Josh are charismatic leads. Of course the plot is cheesy and basic, but who cares. Hollywood needs to brings back this chick flick genres to theater not streaming service.
