Dula Peep Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 No more White Lotus or AJTL? Looks like Trixie Mattel won again
prézli Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Sounds fake. HBO Max is the most successful streaming service at this moment. Why would they give up on that?
TaylorNation Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 ugh not the best streaming service being killed off like that wtf, NO ONE cares about Discovery
Hephaestus Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 This is such a weird news... Who in their right mind would not only stop investing but straight up cancel the shows that have given the platform success, awards and recognition (that directly translate to new subscribers) for more unscripted reality mess? That sounds like a disaster in the making, I genuinely hope this isn't the direction the company's gonna take.

mystery Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Just to clarify like other users did HBO Max programming is not the same as regular HBO cable programming. HBO (premium cable channel) scripted programming & coproductions that are currently running, upcoming or renewed: Westworld, Euphoria, Succession, The Gilded Age, House of the Dragon, The Nevers, Perry Mason, True Detective, The White Lotus, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Rehearsal, Barry, Random Acts of Flyness, Los Espookys, A Black Lady Sketch Show, The Righteous Gemstones, Somebody Somewhere, My Brilliant Friend, His Dark Materials, Avenue 5, Industry HBO Max scripted programming & coproductions that are currently running, upcoming or renewed: Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, Gossip Girl, Julia, Tokyo Vice, Hacks, The Sex Lives of College Girls, And Just Like That..., Peacemaker, Our Flag Means Death, Minx, Ten Year Old Tom, Looney Tunes Cartoons, Jellystone!, Little Ellen What will most likely happen is that certain HBO Max shows that have been renewed will be shifted to HBO itself.
Johnny Jacobs Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 (edited) There is literally no way that's happening.. Especially when HBO MAX is smashing with their scripted content lately.. Even if true.. Why discovery is winning? Is it that big? Edited August 3, 2022 by Johnny Jacobs
Robert Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 If Just Like That and the new Gossip Girl were anything to go by, it’s for the best.

Archetype Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 This is a really bad, false rumor. HBO Max is considered more of a mature, slightly cool streaming service with “premium” shows due to its affiliated with the HBO catalogue. That’s what makes HBO and HBO Max so popular. No one, and I repeat no one, is going to tune into “Discovery+” to watch Euphoria. I see no reason why Discovery and HBO Max can’t just have their own separate sites like Disney+ and Hulu. They’re just fundamentally different services with very different viewing demographics.
mystery Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 My thoughts on this is that HBO Max and Discovery Plus will get merged and the HBO branding will get removed to keep it exclusive to HBO as a premium cable network. It will get renamed into something like Warner Max or Discovery Max. Surviving renewed HBO Max original programming will get shifted to the main HBO and all HBO programming will exist as a category on the new streaming service.
Badgalbriel Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 This is why we should have never gotten that many streaming services. Should've been only Netflix and that's it. We're now back to cable TV times again, where you need to sign up for every company channel otherwise you cant watch their content. If everything was unified, then that would've been much better from a consumer point of view.

Cloudy Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Wouldn't it be more smast to capitalize on the HBO brand instead of the Discovery one
Repelex Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 That would be the dumbest course of action they could take which makes me think it could be true after all the news that have been coming from that CEO and this merger HBO is an established name and more popular with the GP, imagine turning that into a ******* Discovery tab

You’re right about Apple, they’ll probably survive. Though I think they’re somewhat a non-factor in the streaming competition, they’re happy with whatever market share they have right now.

And even if it was a streaming HBOMax exclusive you can be sure Warner Bros would've moved the show to the premium HBO channel. They might be stupid in rebranding their streaming this way but they're not stupid enough to get rid of one of their biggest show.

HBO is causing a lot of confusion cause it feels like a legacy brand associated with the cable era (esp those who've been with AT&T) and probably limiting its streaming subscription growth. WB and Discovery is more direct to the point, subscribers know what they're getting (WB for movies, Discovery for series). That they're calling the recent merger of the parent company Warner Bros Discovery is a sign.

Nobody would know HBO originals or those HBO Max/WB Television originals/Cartoon Network would be in a Discovery streaming service, that name might even pull people off. How are Paramout+ and Peacock doing? Edited August 3, 2022 by Repelex
