Big Brother has found its third British home, ITV, with the network teasing the news – one of the UK TV industry’s worst kept secrets of the past few months – during the final of tonight’s Love Island season eight.

 

The format aired on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2010 and Paramount-owned Channel 5 from 2010 to 2018, with ITV’s reboot set to hit British screens in 2023. 

As with Love Island, the Banijay format will air on ITV portfolio channel ITV2 along with soon-to-launch streamer ITVX and is a huge coup for the commercial broadcaster.

Paul Mortimer, ITV2 Controller and Director of Reality Commissioning & Acquisitions, said ITV’s version will be “refreshed and contemporary.”

 

“It will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round, but with a brand new look and some additional twists that speak to today’s audience,” he added.

It is incredible that this format is still so successful in many parts of the world. In my country it was a boom in the early 2000's, but then it was cancelled. They tried to revive it a few years ago, but it failed

Apparently not, according to some press release that leaked. 6 weeks of "ordinary" civilians, they want to cater it to a younger audience but want it to have the original social experiment feel the older series of BB had. I guess they can keep Love Island for showing off wannabe influencers and use this as is intended.

 

I do hope they get it right regardless, I really love and miss this show but C5 really handled it badly, especially the last few series.

Good! The U.S. show is a different game show, it doesn't even feel like BB, housemates have too much power and they get away with a lot.

Finally! I've enjoyed the UK and Canadian version more than the US version, so I'm happy this classic is returning

They do... it's a whole different format and a housemate can remain the house with clever strategy skills.

im quite hopeful that since it’s on the same channel as Love Island, they’ll keep their influencer interest there and let Big Brother remain down to earth like the original run. hopefully…
