Broken Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) Netflix is in rough shape. This week will determine its future. "There will be hell to pay if they report a number that is significantly higher than the 2 million loss being thrown around," New York (CNN Business) Netflix, once a darling of Wall Street, is suddenly on the ropes. The streaming giant will report its second-quarter earnings on Tuesday, and it's shaping up to be one of the most consequential moments in the 25-year history of the company. Netflix is having a terrible year. In April, the company reported that it had lost subscribers in the first quarter of 2022 -- the first time that had happened in any quarter for more than a decade. Netflix's stock subsequently burst into flames (it's currently down about 70% so far this year), wiping out billions of dollars in market value, and the company laid off hundreds of employees. The loss of subscribers wasn't the only problem that caused Netflix's world to be turned upside down like the kids on "Stranger Things." A weak outlook for the second quarter shocked investors: Netflix predicted it would lose another 2 million in the spring. "There will be hell to pay if they report a number that is significantly higher than the 2 million loss being thrown around," Andrew Hare, a senior vice president of research at Magid, told CNN Business. Netflix is pinning its hopes on potential savior: advertising. The company announced Wednesday that it will partner with Microsoft on a new, cheaper ad-supported subscription plan. Despite Reed Hastings, Netflix’s CEO, being allergic to the idea for years. https://edition.cnn.com/2022/07/17/investing/stocks-week-ahead Will Sadie Sink's Stranger Things S4 save Netflix or is it too late? selena_lavigne Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 they prematurely cancelled a lot of the beloved shows. of course they would lose subscribers when the new shows are lamer rehashes of shows they've already made. that being said, they can always come back strong.
OreGuy Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 they really should stop paying actors too much money with a shitty movie/s contract
Revolution Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 unfortunately there is never anything good to watch on netflix anymore. they r over.
Carla Rosón Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I really hope they don't cancel Shadow & Bone. Shows like Elite are probably getting the axe though.
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted July 18, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted July 18, 2022 I'm sure there is going to be a lot of cancellations now that Stranger Things is over for the time being. There really isn't anything good on Netflix these days. Networks have all created their own streaming services and have taken their best programming with them. Their own programming is hit or miss, a lot of shows don't last that long or there is way too long between seasons (like ST) and the constant price increases doesn't help. I actually don't mind the idea of ads if it means a significantly cheaper price. I tend to choose ad-supported memberships at all the other streaming services I have just to save some money.
Breathe On Moi Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 If I can cancel right now will it count towards their report??

Guest Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) I dont think the content is the problem, it's the scummy practices, at least here they're putting their shitty experiment of only allowing you to use one location per account and it's so annoying, I have to enter an stupid code every time I try to turn on the app, all because I share my account with my extended family. They really think we're going to pay extra just to avoid that They need to get a better plan, they just can't cut things we had in the past and making us pay to have it again. Ricardo1993 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 They better film, complete, and release the chromatica ball on time
fauxtography Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 i mean, i dont understand how they weren't prepared to lose tons of subscribers when they hiked up their prices earlier this year?
@michael Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 They’re going to be forced to start putting ads. It’s the easiest way to get fast cash.
Into The Void Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Idk but I still watch shows on Netflix. One is returning this week
orange22 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I feel like they think ads are going to save them but I could just see it leading more people to unsubscribe. If I’m paying you every month and you have ads, you better at least have good options to watch…
Elusive Chanteuse Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Good. $20 a month just for 4K other companies offer it for free.

Distantconstellation Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Its funny how people said Blockbuster should have seen Netflix coming when now netflix is sinking too. There are too many streaming services and theyve all pulled their content from Netflix. What netflix produces is trash. They got the nerve to charge more and now add ads? They are going too free fall even more.
Mr.Link Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Cancel all the cheap teenage crap they’re trying so hard to push and focus on actual quality shows like they did at the beginning. People are migrating to HBO and Hulu for a reason and Disney+ is keeping Gen Z entertained with their Marvel crap. Netflix has no significant niche anymore.

As soon as major IP owners started developing their own streaming platforms it was over for Netflix, And I mean over at least in the sense of being the main streaming platform. I think that they'll always be there for their niche shows and brand awareness, but it's really hard to compete with the Disney/Fox empire, plus other big names, when they own all of the most valuable legacy IP.
