enchanted0 Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) I mean it was obvious since the trailer released but didn't expect to do THIS bad Will it flop on box office too? Edited July 13, 2022 by enchanted0

It's hard to say, but the budget is quite inflated for a picture of this genre. It need to have a box-office around 100M to be a kind of "success".
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted July 13, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted July 13, 2022 I wanted this to do well, if only for Daisy's sake

Where The Crawdads and Cats (especially) are obviously throwaway attempts of snagging a quick Oscar, but what's the point of a cameo in Amsterdamn? Is she just bored and doing side missions? Does she want to slowly enter acting?
Sesame Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Wow and RT critics are the easiest people to please too.
kandicha Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I knew this wasn’t going to be an awards contender but I didn’t expect it to be panned. I would still be interested in seeing it, for Daisy, but only when it goes on streaming.
Dancehall Queen Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Quote Much of Newman’s film, with a screenplay by Lucy Alibar (who attended to other bayou matters in Beasts of the Southern Wild), feels like a Nicholas Sparks movie with a murder added in for a bit of dark flavoring. The film is just as saccharine and surface-level as those goopy, ominously conservative romances, using a vibrant and complex setting as backdrop. Where the Crawdads Singwas filmed in Louisiana, with actors and crew wallowing in mud and fending off myriad pests for months. And yet it feels as hollow and digital as any modern thing shot on a green-screen soundstage, overly lit and cold to the touch. https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/07/where-the-crawdads-sing-is-a-dull-boilerplate-adaptation/amp
Von Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Have ya'll heard about this? Apparently the author is wanted for questioning in a real-life murder in Zambia in the 90s. https://www.theatlantic.com/books/archive/2022/07/where-the-crawdads-sing-delia-mark-owens-zambia-murder/670479/

The author should announce that there are clues to her IRL murder in the film tbh. Might drive more people to the theater.

Does she want to slowly enter acting? TBH she is probably chasing that EGOT and is focused on the Oscar right now (she already has multiple Grammies, and an Emmy), and she’s trying to get it in whatever way possible - whether it be for a supporting acting role or for original music. I think she likes acting and maybe wants to do bigger roles (because she keeps trying to dip her foot in it) but I don’t think anyone trusts her to lead a film. She knows music is her strength, so until someone gives her a serious leading role she knows her best bet to win is with an original song. That’s why I think she keeps pumping out those every couple years too.
MusicBiz234 Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Should've been a slam dunk. The book is fantastic and should've made a great movie
Donquizote Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Mess. This movie reminds me of Hillbilly Elergy But at least Close still got nominated for Oscar.

Donquizote Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 This is shaping up to be another Hillbilly Elegy. Acclaimed by RT users, panned by critics.
