favorite crime Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Hollywood's fetishization of Africa is not it...and can't even cast actual African actors while doing it

qurl Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 seems very sanitized (aka for white audiences) , tho … i guess it’s nice to see hollywood taking new kinds of swings and giving Viola her coins/opportunities. this prolly should have been an african movie with native african actors but what can ya do i mainly just came to say it’s iconic that a song Beyoncé made specifically for an entirely separate film found new life here. that’s impact !
G.U.Y. Gaga Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 I was with it until I realized what song was playing looks cute though
EnigmaticAndroid Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Looks surprisingly decent, can def see Viola snatching a SAG nom

Just say you don’t know them… ? The younger female character ( The Simba to Viola’ Mufasa) Is played by South African actress Thuso. She made it in Forbes Africa 30 under 30. Also, we do not want to divide the diaspora anymore. British actors have been playing MLK in Selma and many AA historical figures in big Hollywood movies. Idriss Elba got famous playing Baltimore drug dealer on HBO’ The Wire. Let it go and just enjoy the ride. Edited July 10, 2022 by frenchyisback
raccoon1989 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 there are going to be lot's of upoming movies with better acting,i love Viola, but it's a bit much overated, there are also other blck atresses who could play big roles, still mad that Taraji didn't even reeive an Oscar nomination for her amazing work on Hidden Figures.

Steve Johnson Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Margot Robbie winning the Oscars for Babylon.

Jynx672 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 This movie is pro-slavery. Anyone hyped for this movie is down bad.

But this is the story of the Dahomey Kingdom (currently known as the great country of BENIN). It was a kingdom that lost a lot of men during their wars with other West African kingdoms/tribes. So the women started enrolling too. Those real life 1800s female warriors were behind the inspiration behind Black Panther’s female warriors units. They fought the French Military twice. They lost both times but the French wrote about how fierce they were in their journals & detailed the women’s great fighting skills & tactics. So they became legendarily known as the Dahomey Amazons. Dark Phoenix Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Looks kinda cheap and a mix of Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Black Panther female warriors, might watch it if it has good reviews but I just don’t see it.
Daddy Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 It's not giving Oscar, it's giving Vin Diesel/The Rock action adventure at parts. Hope it's just the trailer cause I ADORE Viola and the idea is fierce as hell...
