mystery Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Love to see it, especially when people were writing them off as fads. It has been 12 years since the release of Despicable Me so I wouldn't be surprised if it was some nostalgia at work as well, considering all the TikTok memes around this film and the fact that the kids that grew up with Despicable Me becoming adults. Illumination knows how to serve a smash animated film, not everybody has that in 2022.
Arcadius Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 (edited) It's crazy a Minions prequel doubled the box office of a Toy Story prequel. But kids love Minions so I'm really not shocked it keeps smashing. Edited July 2, 2022 by Arcadius
Rev8 Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Ew the way it has been pushed in our throats all these years funny how edgy 40 year olds were constantly posting pics with them on their profiles too never understood the hype for them

Gwendolyn Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 TikTok teens are a different breed I think it will make 400 million worldwide by the end of the weekend hopefully.

bliaz Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 The Minions are like the new Winnie the Pooh, or Mickey Mouse, they are here to stay and for all ages.
zasderfght Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 (edited) This news doesn't really "outrage" me, despite me never fully watching Despicable Me 2 (yet, I somehow saw Despicable Me 1 and 3), and me barely starting the first Minions movie. Frankly, I'm glad theatrical movies can still profit. I rarely go to the movies (prices are crazy, at least in my area), but when I do, I love the experience. As with any decent, cute idea for a family movie-- usually the first outing is decent, then the studio gets greedy and wants to re-boot/remake the original or give the franchise a sequel/spin-off/some other cash-grab. Seems like that was the case with the Despicable Me universe. Edited July 2, 2022 by zasderfght
