Is Television Taking Over Film?

Recommended Posts

Posted

TV shows are becoming increasingly more expensive, and the quality is exceptional.

Long ago, being on a TV show was considered second rate but following the success of big spectacles like Stranger Things, Obi Wan, Squid Game, and even Game of Thrones as well as the upcoming Lord of the Rings show the lines have blurred with epic TV sagas.

Is film losing its right of being #1?

Streaming is taking over cinema, actually.

No, Top Gun 2 just smashed at the movie theater. Neither cinemas nor movies are dying.

I'd switch Obi Wan with The Mandalorian :rip:

And no, nothing can replace the theatrical experience

Covid might have taken 3 good years but movies will keep grossing billions (2 already did post-pandemic)

They can both coexist :giraffe:

Top gun 2 just smashed at the box office.. People love to go out and watch movies in theaters and that aint going away. No one is going to theatres to watch stranger things anyways. Theatres is meant only for movies and nothing  is gonna change that. Digital platforms are just garbage dumping grounds for movies like Dont look up, 365 days etc. If you want quality top notch movies you will have to visit theatres.

Sis lets be real. No one watches most of those movies nominated at the oscars. These movies wont even last 2 weeks in theatres.

TV Shows, yes.

Television itself is dying :rip:

Streaming is. Not just tv, but movies too. It already has begun. Even tho movie theaters are starting to make money again, streaming is the new norm

Marvel destroyed the movie theater, not film.

Film is still good on streaming. Lots of possibilities.

People do like cinematic tv shows that you can follow like a serial more than ever. The budget is so high if you have a good enough laptop or home entertainment system, you're good.

There are also no movie stars anymore so

Imo, the cinema is just an awful place to watch a film. Way too many rude people talking or on their phones

Honestly this question has been asking ever since TV appear around 1950s and the answer and outcome was same NO, both can coexist.

The sudden increase of big movies stars making TV shows tells you what you need to know so yes series are slowly taking over movies as the superior storytelling form

Studios stopped greenlighting good, original, well-written, intelligent dramas in favour of safe remakes and superhero movies, so all those stories and their writers/directors went to TV - particularly streaming.

I think cinema is becoming more exclusive for big spectacle projects like Marvel, Fast & Furious, or as we see now Top Gun. Streaming is obviously putting out a ton of excellent movie quality content but the money made on streaming for these studios will never equate to the money they'd make in theatres. Therefore, cinema will always be regarded as the bigger of the two.

Eh, that’s not precisely true when some of the best movies are not even given widespread theatrical releases unless they’re given an Oscar nomination (after which they’re released). Nowadays only commercial trash like Marvel and Pixar movies really “do well” in theatres.

Lmao wait I didn't even realize, yeah television should worry about streaming taking over it first before it can even think about taking over films/cinema :bibliahh:
