Why do north americans and europeans think that leftist governments in south america are the same than the socialist dictator ship of Venezuela? :toofunny3: we are talking about a democracy insert in a neoliberal capitalsm system, just with a focus on social justice more than free market, just like Europe, but I don’t read anyone comparing Macron to Maduro…

This man supported Maduro and sees Chavez as an example, besides he was a political advisor of the venezuelan government for a long time, and let's not forget he was part of a movement called M-19 where several crimes where committed and has links with the FARC.

This says everything we need to know about him. :matty:

I wish more Latin American countries had a concept of "center-left" rather than having to resort to radicalized leftists versus far-righters all the time. Uruguay is right there setting the example of prosperity coming from moderate views.

The rise of Ms. Márquez is significant not only because she is Black in a nation where Afro-Colombians are regularly subject to racism and must contend with structural barriers, but because she comes from poverty in a country where economic class so often defines a person’s place in society. Most recent former presidents were educated abroad and are connected to the country’s powerful families and kingmakers.

Proud of our first black VP  :eli:

Actually Petro positions are way closer to Vazquez/Mujica than to Maduro. Uruguay was ruled by leftists for 15 years which made it one of the most successful countries in Latin America.  Not only economically but socially (legalization of cannabis, abortion and gay marriage all happened under leftist rule).

I don't understand why Latin American leftists are always compared to Maduro and not to other successful leftists. Maduro is actually the exception :gayoncecat1:

I'm just sorry to say if you refuse to see how your behavior is completely irrational, and deranged.  Again we are talking about Colombia. :skull: The man not associated to Maduro in any way.

Too bad you have to call me irrational and deranged and didn't actually answers my arguments without having to resort to personal attacks. I don't know the source of that map, but yes many people have died because of their ideas and political positions in the past, you think I'm going to deny that? I'm not an apologist of murders and I don't forget the atrocities that have been committed in the past by the radical left and far right, like some leftists who like to forget about communist Stalin mass murders in Ukraine with Holodomor, and communist Mao who mass murdered his own people. And the way cuban dissidents were killed once Fidel took power, and how a murder like Che Guevara is wrongly revered by latin america's youth and all over the world.

This is not only about Colombia, it's about the region, this is about Latin America. Whatever happens in Colombia will have an impact. And I already explain to you in the post you quoted the association between Colombia and my country who happen to share borders.

Yes he is linked to Maduro and Chavez, he tried to distance himself from the venezuelan government for this election and it obviously worked.

This is him back in 2016, denying food shortage in the country, IN 2016 when I had to make lines to find food in the most humiliating way so my ill mother could cover her necessities. But once he could not deny it, blamed the sanctions just like you did.

Those weren't "leftists", it was center-left. Huge difference. Being center-left and being left are very different.

Their party was literally called "The socialist party of Uruguay". Yes, their governing coalition (The broad front) was more left-center. but the candidates themselves were 100% leftists

And the People's Democratic Republics of China and North Korea are not quite literally what they claim to be, are they? The so-called leftists ruling Uruguay never implemented the same leftist measures that tanked other Latin American countries. You can call yourself what you want, but it's your actions that matter. We'll see about this new Colombian president and I wish them the best.

How quickly people's tone changes when they are called out for being reactionary, and having some sort of derangement syndrome. :toofunny3:

Your feelings aren't changing the outcome of this election. Just as your fellow right wingers can't change it either. I'm sure they will advocate for more sanctions that will kill tens's of thousands of people, because it restricts trade, and you will continue to say it's a necessary evil to stomp out communism. Deranged, and psychotic behavior.

Yes because saying someone has a  "derangement syndrome"  makes it any better, as if you knew me enough to talk about my mental health. Of course the slur was unnecessary, I should have used another word, that does not change what I said, nor does it misrepresent my ideas. I know the outcome won't change, I stated that already, I'm just speaking my mind.

Don't really care about what Ron Desantis has to say because I don't align with him, I am not a far right advocate. I'm actually against any extreme, left or right. Sadly I had to live under a far left regime, which explains why I'm so against that model of government.

Bit odd that you demand people associate Petro with Maduro because you think they have overlapping ideas despite no official alliances yet reject the idea of associating yourself with far-right anti-communists in America despite your over-lapping share of ideas.

Anti-communism = right-winger. :celestial5:

Not only because they share the same ideas and have the same political goals, but because he literally worked with Chavez government as an advisor while Maduro was Secretary of State and he kept working with the venezuelan government until they cut the ties, I'm not making up any association.

You can be anti-communism and be center left, right or center, not everything is black and white, there's a whole political spectrum to choose from. Besides I already stated why I'm so against it.
