Surprise Releases only work when the material is without a doubt excellent. He deserves this reaction for that album and I hope the upcoming weeks will be even more humbling

Stop setting her up hater!

If Bey does 40 million, we are going to be extremely happy about it!

It’s pretty fascinating to observe this debut in the broader context of how other stars have done lately with their debuts. Before this I would have assumed a Drake surprise drop would be the biggest debut of the year on the BB200, unless Taylor drops 1989 TV in November, but with these numbers it’s looking like Harry will keep that for now. In the thread about predicting Beyoncé’s first week, there were also posts pointing out how Post, Billie, The Weeknd, etc have done lately, and of course there’s 30 to consider - the industry is changing faster than I thought.

Although, I guess a big factor is that it’s probably not out on CD yet, right?

Even as a surprise drop this isnt that good for him imo, would have expected something between 80-100M
But this year is super weird in general, feels like there are no hits and almost no albums are sticking
Just a few exceptions like As It Was, Bad Bunnys album..

I feel like these musicians are becoming arrogant and lazy. They thought with their name and past success, they could stay on top forever thus putting less effort and time with their music. Drake, Billie, Ed and Adele (I love her) oh and Ariana had been releasing the same sound for a few singles and albums in a row now so I'm not really suprised they are flopping.

Taylor is the only one making effort with pure sales. Now that Beyoncé is stepping up her game, it'll be interesting to see when the album arrives later.

I can tell u as much as a teacher of middle and highschool students (in Germany): My kids are mostly listening to retro songs from the 80/90/2000s/2010s. I barely hear them listen to new music at all.

We wanted real house music, not those washed up repeated house loops

I was thinking the same thing. First The Weeknd dropped a flop, then Posty, now Drake. And that last song Bieber dropped flopped. The boys need to step it uppppp!!!

im surprised Drakes numbers dropped that much honestly.

I don't understand the comments about surprise releases or the industry, the fans and the GP don't like the album. The lead losing more than 3M is proof. It's not deeper than that.

His next album will do well.

day 2: i like you - 1.65 million. About the same as Falling Back.
late night talking - 2.52 million. About the same as Jimmy Cooks.
n95 - 2.76 million. (die hard 2.14, grief 2.08)
moscow mule - 1.87 million. (despues de la playa 1.66, about the same as Falling Back)

I remember when people thought Kendrick's album was a bit divisive for being not catchy/dance-y enough.
