I really liked episode 1 and 2 but I can already tell this is not gonna top the masterpiece that was Midnight Mass.

I finished it and I have the same thoughts. I enjoyed it but I don't think it reaches the heights of midnight mass and hill house.

Enjoying it so far. Imagine thinking Midnight Mass was a masterpiece :bibliahh: Three episodes in and this is already much better than that sanctimonious trash

Hmmm this was a decent watch. Kinda surprised by how some things turned out. The gay nurse practitioner is so cute. I wish he had more scenes.

Questions I have.

Spoiler

I’m guessing there’s a going to be a second season? There are still some few unresolved storylines.

- The old man and woman haunting the teens. Who are they?

- Julia getting away and what happened to her afterwards. Why did she decide to do the ritual that way? What was she trying to accomplish?
- The doctor being a cancer patient? And belonging to the hourglass society? Is she good or bad?
- Anya’s sign from the beyond via fixing the ballerina statue.

Just finished the series and I think it’s the weakest so far in Mike Flanagan’s catalogue. I didn’t really find myself caring so much about the characters unlike in Midnight Mass, Bly Manor or Hill House where at least one death really moves you to tears. They tried to do it in episode 7 but it just ended up being confusing. I think it’s in part to half of the episodes being devoted to the stories so we didn’t really get to know the actual characters as much.

My favorite character is definitely Spence and I lowkey wish he ended up with the nurse even though that would be weird. I hope William Chris Sumpter stays booked for the next Flanagan project (The Fall of the House of the Usher).

4 episodes in and these teens are annoying af :skull: Those fake deep conversations :skull:

Is this more geared towards a younger audience vs the haunting series and Midnight Mass?

Episodes 3 and 4 were actually great, I'm hooked! Mike Flanagan king of horror shows

Ish, but it is set in 1994 so it's more Gen X than Gen Z.

welcome to Mike Flannigan's filmography. where literally every single character will eventually give an extended monologue about their backstory. his motto is literally "Tell, Don't Show" :deadbanana4:

o.t. currently on EP 2. does it get better? because the Irish girl is getting on my damn nerves :deadbanana4:

The good thing about The MIDnight Mass was when the muslim man was forced to see his son becoming Christian :loki:

This was okay, but definitely the weakest of the Mike Flanagan Netflix shows for me. Very mid. I did love following Spence's backstory, he had the most intriguing and compelling scenes to watch.

Loved the return of the signature actors in the Mike Flanagan anthology universe like Henry Thomas, Zach Gilford, Rahul Kohli, and Kate Siegel in recurring/guest spots.

She's irritating at first but you might like her more later. I felt more sympathetic towards her.

so boring. mike flaganana is a fluke. midnight mass was trash and now so is this

i actually really liked the show. i didn't expect the stories to seem tied into to the characters' backstory but overall i enjoyed those moments of storytelling the most throughout the show. Sandra's Gimme A Kiss story and Natsuki's were prob the best ones. I hope Netflix doesn't block a season 2 from happening just to tie up the loose ends.

this was so pointless lol.

like the whole series could have been the first three episodes and then we could focus on the actual plot which is the ghosts and the last minute reveal.

ugh. too much drama and crying and sad for no reason ok we get it.

it was heartwarming at times but eventually went nowhere. wouldn't even greenlit it for a second season if i was a netflix executive.

Just finished it and I agree it's not Flanagan's best. But damn Natsuki's story really hit me, cried so damn hard :sosad:

I’m on episode 5 and even though I liked a couple of the stories I’m bored as hell. The plot does not move. Hope it gets better in the second half but I’m not holding my breath.

From the questions Mike Flanagan answered on his tumblr      (:doc:) I’m glad it wasn’t renewed for a second season :toofunny3: unless they were going to execute it really well

Yeah I didn't really feel this, it was fine. The further Flanagan moves away from capital H Horror the worse he gets tbh. His sometimes crude writing works when utilised for dense exposition between set pieces or atmosphere building, but there's no excuse for every character speaking in expository monologues when you're spending the entire runtime doing it.
