I think Madonna's Ray of Light is unquestionably the biggest 7th studio album by a MPG. But what about the second biggest?

AFY had the bigger hits.

Lover was the bigger album.

Rainbow gave us Crybaby.

Rainbow wins.

Easily Lover.

It has already outsold both globally in a much worse sales climate.

the album that feels like inspired the most next generations and FEELS like a grand album is rainbow

The 2 albums which both spawned two #1 hits each >>>>>>> the album that didn’t spawn even a single one.

ME! had one of the biggest weeks of the 2010s, it just so happened to be up against one of the strongest #1 hits of all time :deadbanana4:

OT Lover is definitely the bigger album, having already outsold AFY and within spitting distance of Rainbow (and having less than 3 years to accrue sales, and not 20+ like the other two).

All For You clearly …..

All For You album - 5th consecutive #1, biggest debut for a female after OIDIA, #25, #174 year end positions

3 top 3 Singles = #18, #3 and #38 year end positions

Only slowed down cos of external issues with Virgin: Glitter and 9/11.

……..Lover benefitting from streaming makes this comparison incomparable.

Unapologetic would be the 2nd biggest, not sure why it was excluded.

I want to emphasize that Rainbow was Mariah's 7th studio album, but her 9th overall album release. It was released 9 years and 4 months after her debut album.

Not you having to say this because few of AFY's records hold up to Lover :deadbanana4:

It was Taylor's 6th consecutive #1, did over 250k more in the first week, has been #4, #15, and #61 on the year end charts of 2019, 2020, and 2021 respectively

I'll grant you that AFY has more top 3 singles though, even if that's not exactly related to the success of the actual album itself

That's nice but there was literally zero market for western artists on mainland China in the 90s and 00s. People were buying pirated cassette tapes instead of downloading music legally for cheap.

All For You was the biggest foreign album of 2001 in Japan. And Rainbow is 4x Platinum in Japan. Clearly all three albums had wide appeal in Asia.

All for You sold 6 million WW, Rainbow sold 8 million. Rainbow did very well internationally even in tough marks. #2 in the overall chart in Japan, #1 in France.

Rainbow also had two #1s in the US.

And it was easier to sell albums back then, we could play this game all night.
