It’s not right wing thinking, it’s a fact. Any public health specialist agrees. Read ‘And the Band Played On’ which details the first decade of the AIDS epidemic. It never spread among straight people aside from unfortunate souls who got a bad blood transfusion and heroin addicts (because of shared needles). In general, gay men have MUCH higher rates of all STDs and it’s because of having much more sex with multiple partners. Go look it up. This is reality. You can accept it or not, it won’t change reality.

A lot of gay men are so surrounded by other gays and deeply ignorant of the average sex life of straight people that they do not realize that hooking up with a new guy every couple weeks (or much more often than that) is in fact NOT the norm whatsoever outside of gays.

It’s not gays, it’s men in general.

Straight guys are just as horny if not more than gay guys, the difference is that women keep them in check and aren’t as promiscuous so they simply don’t have as much opportunities to hookup. If they could, trust me they would.

Also STDs like HIV are more likely to spread through anal sex which obviously gays have more of.

Stop downplaying it!!!

From the CDC:

You also get scarring over your whole body

I wasn’t downplaying it, I just pointed out it wasn’t incurable which is misinformation. It’s still horrific though and should obviously be taken very seriously.

I believe the 1 in 10 death rate is for a different strain to the one found in Europe so far, also death rates are unfortunately higher in kids.

this is scary and really strange how it is popping up everywhere now. it is very unlike the virus to spread like this. usually it has a very hard time spreading between humans :chick2:

i know some people are saying “don’t panic” and they are right, we shouldn’t be panicking. but this is extremely unusual for this particular virus to be spreading in the way that it is. we should definitely be concerned.

as a part-time london gay, im gonna serve first lockdown levels of caution :giraffe::giraffe:

That's the Congo strain. The West Africa strain (aka the one in Europe) is less than 1% in WEST AFRICA, with infinitely less healthcare measures. It's not about downplaying it's about the facts we have now and not create people to panic already. The most important thing is that it doesn't transmit easily.

Out of the 50 direct contacts of one patient, only one has caught it over some time, still soon to say this strain will be barely contagious but it makes sense with previous data we had about monkeypox.

What kind of bull at straight men not hooking up with new people each week. I guess sex work is only gay. Just quit with the lies. Also last we checked globally highest hiv infections to this date is straight folks, this is based on the population affected.

Several virologists are getting a bit worried cuz this is very unusual for this virus

Clearly it's mutated and is now more transmissible. If it has a three-week incubation period and can spread while asymptomatic in the incubation period, then knowing the jet-setting global gays, it's already spreading worldwide as those numbers show. And this is right before pride season too where gay men flock from big city to big city to have tons of sex and dance parties full of sweat and spit flying everywhere.

Buckle up buckaroos!

I guess this is going to be part of homophobia making its comeback in society. And unlike HIV, you can get this from someone coughing at you.

My advice: look up what companies still produce smallpox vaccines and buy stock now! May as well profit from it if we're all going to get fevers and skin pustules.

Also this will make house prices skyrocket even more because while COVID is bad, I think people have a more visceral reaction against something very visual like monkeypox/smallpox. People will be TERRIFIED of ending up looking like this. More work from home and such.

These are just my doomsday predictions. Happy to be wrong!
