Not a big fan of musicals, but this one was a great one. Popular and Defying Gravity were always favs of mine and seeing them was spectacular. I'm a bit confused on some plot points, like the animal stuff felt undercooked and didn't really understand why they didn't want them speaking anymore.. and the turn to villain was a bit jarring but its whatever it gives Disney Villain (which as it should I guess) in terms of Glinda I honestly thought she was a terrible friend the entire way through lol, I felt so bad for Elphaba in general like damn.. I think both Cynthia and Ari crushed their roles I'm here for them getting Oscar noms, in terms of wins idk if competition is weak then maybe? I haven't seen a lot of the compeition this year but its giving Barbie like yes nominate America and Ryan but is it worthy of an Oscar win? idk.. it doesn't really scream Oscar to me but at least in this case Cynthia and Ari had the incredible vocals so I'd be here for it if it did happen.

So I saw this last night with my boyfriend and omg :cries:

HOW WAS THIS 2 HOURS AND 40 MINUTES! Am I the only one the movie absolutely flew by for? When we got to the Defying Gravity number, I was like "wait, is this movie already about to be over?" I wanted to watch it for hours longer! Every musical number was perfect! Every scene was necesssary! There was never a moment I was bored! From the moment Ariana came down in that bubble, I knew I was gonna be glued to the screen!

Not to be a broken record with everyone else, but Ariana literally couldn't have been more perfect in the role! Amazing live singing, stunts, choreo, effortlessly switching back and forth between comedy and emotional moments. If it were Amanda Seyfried doing all of what Ariana did in the role, we wouldn't even be questioning whether or not she was getting nominated for an Oscar. She literally had it all and I couldn't stop smiling watching her! And any scene she wasn't in, I was just waiting for her to come back. The audience in my theater laughed at like every line she delivered.

And of course Cynthia. CHILLS during The Wizard and I! That scene was so simple but that's all you need with a voice like that! And drawing out Defying Gravity the way they did was incredible! That scene as well as the ballroom scene were so emotional, and Cynthia always sells it with just her eyes! A bunch of people in my theater were crying after both of those scenes, and the whole audience clapped and cheered after the movie was over!

The whole cast did great, but Cynthia and Ariana's chemistry CARRIED this movie! My one nitpick is that the lighting does wash everything out in certain scenes, but by the time they get to Emerald City and ESPECIALLY when they're with the Wizard, everything is GORGEOUS! Loved this movie and I can't wait to see it again for Singalong or in IMAX since I only saw Standard!

The camera cut/transition from Elphaba's snap at Glinda to Glinda and her minions with the books is so perfect

If it is it means it's going to make less than 65 million over the next two days. In other words, no.

It made about 29 million on Friday in America and Canada. The rest of that is from previews earlier in the week.

I guess the first movie will cut to black after Defying Gravity?

also I hope they don't use this extended running time to actually show Dorothy and the other characters, they way it's done in the show is perfect

i think they're doing the story as its presented on stage with minimal edits (if any at all).

saw this last night finally and agree with everyone this was an amazing movie, I already want to rewatch it again. There was an applause at the end of my screening and could hear people crying as they left  :chick1: Cynthia and Ariana really did that :clap3:

Lol there's a certain fanbase that has it in their minds that Ariana's team is somehow trying to disparage/derail Zoe Saldana's campaign. They're just trying to cope with the reality that Wicked is not the disaster they were assuming (hoping) it would be and that Ariana is looking primed to receive her first nomination, unlike their fave who is probably on the outside looking in this year. It's just noise though; no one who has any say in these things pays attention to this stuff

Selena stans aren't helping Selena's nomination chances by creating baseless conspiracies lmao. If they want Selena to get a nomination Zoe being moved to lead is in their best interests (very unlikely Zoe gets moved but hypothetically speaking). Selena is on the cusp around #6/#7 and could likely miss due to Emilia Perez reception being divisive and the two leads getting the most attention for their performance. Ariana isn't what is going to stop Selena from getting in. Ariana is a solid bet for a nomination as of right now. They are coping big time. No shade to Selena either, I actually really liked her in Emilia Perez and wouldn't mind if she got a nomination.

Just saw it and I'm blown away by Ariana's performance. Whenever she was not in the scene, you were just waiting for her to show up. Cynthia was amazing too and her singing „Defying Gravity" was the defining moment of the whole movie. I seriously smell an Oscar nom for Ariana. Idk how about Cynthia - Best Actress is ultra competitive this year.

Saw it last Wednesday and had a blast the theatre was packed. It was such an amazing experience.

The colours were great, Cynthia nailed Her performance but I was surprised that Glinda left a bigger impression on me. Ariana was so funny. The hair flips, the faux modesty, her mean girl antics just hilarious. The Dance scene at the bar truly was a great moment between the witches .

the world building was so extraordinary that I can't help thinking that it deserves its own movie universe a la Harry Potter. Hope HBO picks up on it.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I think a lot of people are overestimating its award prospects, and Selena's. Netflix is a great campaigner and it's great they're putting their might behind this movie, but it's not an easy sell. The Actors are probably going to be ones to push EP into the race, but it remains to be seen to what extent.. but you're absolutely right. Unfortunately they don't care about that because they're bitter about Ariana leapfrogging Sel after they've been saying she was a long shot for months, only for the reverse to now be true.

Based on the reactions I've seen, Selena's performance is not getting the type of reactions that bode well for her chances, but I guess we'll have to wait and see
