Why Are Older Pop Girl Stan Wars + Discussions Better Than The New?

raven

Recommended Posts

There's been so many older stan war (i.e. involving Britney, Christina, Katy, Gaga, etc.) threads come up in the base/chart discussions that do numbers whereas the threads that involve newer generation don't seem to take off or generate as much discussion.

Are the new girls just not as fun and exciting to talk about, or are most of us just old on here?

It’s more interesting to compare longer careers. With newer pop girls they just argue about more trivial things like how many weeks a song was placed on TTH.

The new girls are kinda boring, IMO :rip: And there's less reason to have passionate stanning.

The likes of Mariah, Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Gaga, Britney, Katy, Xtina were blunt, their eras were spectacles, they had enormous sales, and there was more pop culture interest in the "diva."  People like Mariah, Madonna, and Janet all still have passionate supporters here because they created timeless, high-quality bodies of work that people could personally relate to as well.

I would guess the median age of people who would use a message board to discuss pop culture as opposed to Twitter skews higher.

the new girls aren't feuding ergo kinda boring + there's really not much to present as receipts... yet

Because Camila has failed us, she bombed too hard that even her own fanbase was crying about how we should stop dragging her floppage.

Dua has now no competition, Zara is gone, Bebe is gone, Camila is gone, Rita is gone, but Dua is still standing

This

u can mostly see their impact and influence too

Not saying the new girls are boring..but it really feels like u cant get something grand as the early Katy vs Gaga thing for example

let alone Britney vs Xtina

It's rly funny when users constantly complain about the older act wars

like..It really feels like they are left out of all the fun so they resort to ageist attacks:ahh:

"The Motto" is kinda stomping on Sweetest Pie, Cold Heart should be scared if Ava keeps on like this

I think for the most part I’ve out-grown now stan wars.

But in terms of Gen Z popgirls and stans they are kind of pacific and afraid to get involved into drama or cancellations so they are forced to be nice, even if sometimes they don’t feel like it.

Us Millennials grew up in an a lot more toxic environment so we are wired differently.

Atrl peak years were probably the early-mid 2010s. Ever since 2017 the music scene has sucked compared to what it was before that.

Yeah true, but even when the older generation girls were at the height of their careers the conversations around them still seemed more interesting but it was a different time I guess.

It's a lot more toxic for people to be terrified of speaking their minds.

Gen Z, doesn’t have the same freedom we had online 10 years ago to speak our mind.

Also the herd mentality they have is another factor. They agree with everything between them..

OT: Overall the conversation regarding female artists has shifted as the years have gone by

You had Britney & Xtina, Katy & Gaga constantly pit against each other by the media, naturally the fans & artists themselves would have that type of mentality as a result.

Nowadays the media isn't as weirdly misogynistic & toxic, you aren't really seeing Olivia & Billie for example being pit against each other, they aren't publicly shading each other either, so the fans mostly mind their own business.

+ obviously people who grew up with these artists would argue more about them than the new girls. Gen Z are kind of a minority here as most of them are more on apps like Twitter & TikTok.

Because as of like 2015 celebrities never show their asses anymore like they used to unless you’re Nicki Minaj. Like I don’t think kids today realize how sterilized and PR’d the stars of their generation are. That real life vitriol fuels stan wars.

I don't think it has anything to do with how newer popstars don't get into feuds or avoid drama and thus are less interesting for stans to discuss/debate. Beyoncé has never had one feud with any other popstar for the entirety of her nearly 20-year-old solo career, and the only possible feud in her 25-year-career was that of the Destiny's Child members which has absolutely no sway over the fact that she's continually a topic on ATRL.

Or, maybe it is because of the above reason and Beyoncé is an anomaly.

All the girls today wanna play nice. We need Dua and Doja to release the same week or something, that would stir things up a bit

Because y’all are just making anyone famous these days. There are no real actual celebrities anymore.
