Why was the final season of Game of Thrones so... bad - what happened?

Its the authors fault for not finishing it and after all this time still hasn't finished it. If he doens't know how it ends then they wouldn't know. lol

Also this show is still highly regarded and some of the best television ever.

The show had been mediocre-to-bad with some sporadic great episodes for years up to that point, it took them to do a gigantic clusterfuck for people to acknowledge it at last

The way it replaced the overall vastly better Lost as THEE cautionary tale for every ambitious show that wants to end satisfyingly, we love to see it

In retrospect the quality of the show slowly started decaying after the first few seasons to be honest. It was when it got to the last one that it started to do it in a shocking speed.

Horrendous writing, cringe dialogue, rushed plotlines and butchered characters made the whole thing a nonsensical mess. Nothing was done right. Maybe and just maybe it could have worked if they spread out the last two seasons over at least 4 and had different writers. Maybe.

Overall, I like to pretend the series ended with the 6th season and it's an open ending.

the show quality was going downhill after the 4th season

Can we not talk about this travesty in 2022? Let’s leave it in the past where it belongs. Forgotten. Unloved. And ignored.

GRRM needs to start finishing the novels. And then remake the show please.

It had a world full of potential and spin-off ideas and everything ruined because the showrunners were hacks

Tbh

they could have milked it a lot more but the reputation and replay value of the show ended with that horrible last season

there is no coming back from this sadly

I’m late but….

I think most people working on the show didn’t even want to keep going with it and that was noticeable,

everything seemed rushed, the acting is very forced sometimes, they focused a lot on the VFX and less on the plotlines, they wanted to please fan theories with making Jon and Daenyris relatives but it made no sense, a lot of characters arc or development were forgotten or changed, The crow becoming king, Daenerys going crazy, Jon just doing nothing, Sersei basically just being a coward, no one had a good ending tbh, aside probably The hound and Sam

I also think not having much left from the books also hurt the plot having more ideas, to me the show started declining with Jon dying and being brought back to life like nothing…..

It was very rushed and they didn’t have the books to follow. It really went from one of the best shows of all time to an absolute disaster.

It is LITERALLY the worst show ever. The final season completely ruined the whole series. Every single character development and story arc went down in flames. The only people I feel sorry for are the actors who wasted giving years of their life to this show. The showrunners should be banned from ever coming 6 feet of a script or film set ever again. I have never hated a show so much than this. I think it’s so traumatic for me that I forget it exists until someone brings up the show again :rip: I will NEVER watch anything related to GOT ever again.

We've wanted ten years to find out who will sit on the throne only to find out no one will and they invented democracy :bibliahh:

I really think the only way to redeem themselves is to make another season (new writers) and bring back Daenerys from the dead for revenge..

it was rushed. dany going "evil" actually makes a lot of sense, but they did it in two episodes. the show needed two seasons more at least. one for the undead plot and other for the cersei vs dany one :skull:

i hated emilias acting most of the show but she was great on the last season. one of the few redeeming qualities, it was a tour de force for her

At  one point I was so obsessed with it, reading fan theories, watching reactions in youtube, etc. Nowadays, I don't even want to think about it. like a relationship with a really bad breakup that you just WANT TO FORGET

I genuinely don't think that show could have been finished in a satisfying manner. The plot is just too unwieldy. Clearly GRRM has also no idea what to do with it, so what are a few TV writers going to do. Obviously, the rushed pace and the shorter final season made everything even worse as everyone else has mentioned.

Yep. I don't want to defend D&D, but when they signed on to make the show, they signed on with the idea that they would always have books to adapt because GRRM and his lying ass said the series would be completed.

D&D are good at adapting, which is why the series was good up until S5 when they ran out of material to adapt.
