They're really tired.  :rip:

But who knew there were so many caveats for stans to exploit?

how do they verify this tho

"If you buy another digital copy of the single it won’t count even with another card or in another tracking week"

thats my question too. can't people just use different emails & vpns to bypass IP-tracking?

Credit card and billing address. They can't count cash tho.

^^^ this right here.  Billing address for the card you’re using.  I guess they could get around this by doing a bunch of prepaid cards though, but WHO is going to go through that kind of trouble to mass buy?

Isn't this old news?

No, because previously you could still buy the same song in multiple weeks.  Now it won’t count after the first week purchase.

Oh well!  That’s what fanbase get for abusing it

There's still a fairly easy way around this — all an artist has to do is release multiple versions with different UPCs/ISRCs. The song can even be the same, just slap a different cover on on it and give it a different code and the problem is kinda solved.

The hard part is as far as I know, there's no way for fans to know if two identical songs with different covers have the same or different UPCs/ISRCs, so stans that bulk buy just to help their fave chart high could potentially be wasting their money if they can't confirm this. :skull:

The even easier solution is artists just releasing multiple remixes/versions.

In conclusion...I don't think BTS is going anywhere from the charts, though their longevity is likely shot at this point unless they do the most releasing remixes as such. (Which they already do, but I mean even more of them,)

and this too.  Labels will still release 16272672762662 remixes and singles with different covers.  But I have a feeling that’s going to be the next rule.  That it’ll have to be SIGNIFICANTLY different than the original version in order for it to count.

They need to start marketing remixes all as the same song. A remix with one changed note would still be considered different. This won't change much aside from making free calls more apparent past week one, because people will just gift as many people $2 to buy the song once just for a good debut.

Remixes should only count if they're severely different enough, but that's a hard argument to make because significant means differently to each person. Honestly, I'm just in the boat of counting all remixes as the original song. But if they do the significant remix change, I'm expecting at least :45s - 1:00 of new content at the minimum

Artists can still scam the first week though

Besides BTS, all the other fraudulent #1s pretty much freefall on the second week. So this rule doesn't really change anything

they are already prepare to not rely on sales anymore.

also this is actually good, now Armys can save their money and focus more to buy their album.

also both Dynamite & Butter debut with 32M+ streams, with 0 sales that's alone enough for a top 5/top 10 debut :-*

they will focus more on youtube & spotify:coffee2:

All these people saying over for BTS but BTS' first week is always legit :rip: they won't get longevity at #1 but they will still score quick lil #1 after #1.

as far as I remember, MRC (nielsen) themselves doesn't collect unique data, but they will ask those platforms to do audit and remove bulk sales.

it was all case by case based on billboard staff's call. not automatic works.

like.. the new rule started on January.

Nicki's Do we have problem had 48k sales from barb's mass buying. billboard clearly didn't do order filter with this.

anyway, even if they go hard on multiple orders, that will be per platforms.

so you can still buy all the different versions from itunes, amazon, tidal, merch store etc..

Maybe they should've done this earlier so Good 4 U could've got its rightful weeks :toofunny3: but ok

Unless they are against another massive hit like good 4 u

Butter would have peaked at #2 even during the first week against good 4 u without the mass buying. Butter didn't even top the HDD Revenue Chart during the first week, good 4 u was #1 that week thanks to her album release.

Agree, but this year there's hardly any song that hit 400 points for multiple weeks so far... unless Liv does a head to head again with OR2 lead :giraffe:

they should have started this rule in early 2020
