Yeoh better win. Cate will be able to win a third soon anyway.

If she's not winning for Tár, she has another HUGE reason to get to the third soon, besides Carol. The Academy could feel that she's overdue just on these previous losses alone.

Besides Cate will get so many opportunities in the future, for Yeoh this might be her only chance for a win

doubtful. the industry didn't love carol enough to give it a single win, or a bp nom.

tar has worse rt audience score, and worse box office.

this would only be her 2nd loss since her last win.

meryl went 13 noms in between wins.

And? Legend Frances went 0 between her 2nd and 3rd.   Besides, that was not my point - Carol (and Tár) for Blanchett are critically lauded, revered performances and the combined strength of those two amount for her chances at a third that is soon to be seen at a much greater degree than Meryl's regular namechecks.

i'm saying that 2 losses does not make anyone overdue for a 3rd oscar

which was your point

which is false

so

by that logic, olivia colman is overdue, margot robbie is overdue, penelope cruz is overdue, scarlett johansson is overdue, sally hawkins is overdue, emma stone is overdue on her next nom, jennifer lawrence is overdue. every white movie star

The quote button is free. However,  the misquote is not: I did jot say that two losses make someone overdue for an Oscar. I said that the two high profile, win-competitive, remembered for years to come nominations by Blanchett could make the Academy feel that she is overdue.

Sasha Stone melting down about the gender neutral acting categories. Imagine how tired we are.

I mean, last year the Gotham Awards were ridiculos for introducing the gender neutral categories, but then there was a tie between an actor and an actress for Best Lead Performance :skull:

Cate would be a deserving winner and deserving of a third. She has solidified herself as one of the greats this past decade. But yes, the urgency to reward Yeoh is bigger. I won't be mad either way, maybe a bit sadder for Yeoh if Blanchett is indeed taking it.

All of this. Blanchett would be a fantastic winner, but Yeoh also gives an amazing (if completely different) performance alongside this potentially being her only chance at a win. It's not that hard of a choice.

Yeod did way better than Cate in Tár and also that movie has no hype or narrative unlike how they’re pushing EEAAO.

Gotham Awards for indie films, the other notable one after the Spirits:

https://deadline.com/2022/11/gotham-awards-2022-winners-list-livestream-1235182333/

Picture: Everything Everywhere

Lead: Danielle Deadwyler

Supporting: Ke Huy Quan

Doesn't always correlate to Oscar but nice start for them.

(See how Nicole Beharie beat both Actress Oscar winners frances/yuh-jung. Or how Toni Collette beat glenn close.]

I could see The Fabelmans going home empty handed on Oscar night.

hmmmm I see a path where Quan is the acting contender from EEAAO the industry just coalesces around.

he's winning, it's a done deal.

now we just need the movie to win pic, directing, writing, vfx, and actress.

...multiple Oscar winner Ang Lee is making a movie about Bruce Lee, starring his own son Mason Lee.

seems very nepotism-y, but maybe he's good?
