Part of the problem is the branding, they should’ve made a standalone Fanstastic Beast movie and teased the Dumbledore/Grindelwad trilogy as its own product at the end.

Now they’re stuck with a weird brand that are forced to move forward for continuity reasons while the main characters and storyline have significantly shifted across the movies. The Rowling controversies don’t help either though.

This series was NEVER as popular as HP...Who thought this was going to smash?

This should have never been a franchise. FB1 was cute as a side project and should've finish the story right there.

$40 million is not bad, it’s global numbers will make it break even. Another W for legend JK Rowling

Not that surprising tbh. The 2nd movie was extremely forgettable.

They forced the only other literature piece from the HP world and tried to turn it into a franchise instead of creating a whole new series... So they initially sold this "trilogy" around the magical creatures yet even in the first film they were treated as side characters, and now the third installment is about Dumbledore's relationship with Grindelwald? Like lmao.

It's a mess. They should've done a Dumbledore prequel and that's it. I think the other problem is that the series lacks appeal to children-teenagers. The creatures aren't enough. And Eddie himself and his character are not that charismatic, maybe? or interesting.

I'll be streaming when it's released in HBO Max.

Just rewatched the first two, about to go see the third one... if someone else wrote these movies I bet they'd be good. :rip: I know I'm gonna fume knowing Tina is barely in this new one.

These numbers aren’t good. There’s no spinning it. This movie cost $200 million.

Has there ever been a franchise with this much controversy surrounding it?

Johnny Depp thrown out, Rowling being a TERF, Grindelwald vaping the Holocaust, a violent Ezra Miller, Nagini OUT as well, gay lines removed from the film in Chinese theatres etc…. The list is never ending

It really is a cursed franchise. :rip:

That's $40M too much. At this point the series only serves to line the pockets of horrible people smh.

totally agree! like, as a lifelong diehard HP stan these movies are so insulting.

is this what Star Wars stans felt when watching the prequels? :rip:

No, because the SW sequels are exactly like the originals or better. SW fans are actually just racist cishet white men.

THESE movies are an affront to cinema and all of the excellent sequences in the original films. They could erase its legacy. The SW sequels only built on that legacy, even despite the vocal minority of psychotic fans. FB is just BAD.

it was doomed the moment it became a Grindelwald story instead of Newt going on an adventure to find fantastic beasts (maybe culminating in facing Grindelwald Idk)

well, anyways, the PREQUELS were pretty good too if you enjoy political drama

and my critique of sequel haters is still relevant somewhere… :spring:

The first one was cute, second one awful and this one was alright but I’m glad to see JKR lose after all her antics.

Neither can I, to be fair. It’s something I clearly remember reading about, but I can’t recall where - I’ll delete it from my comment.
