Terrible film! People even walked out. Did not anticipate this to be so boring and bland. His worst film

There’s blood and violence but pretty tame for an R rated movie , and not really scary

Loved It! His best movie yet! the characters are great and great visuals!
I don’t get the divisive reviews, it’s the most commercially accessible movie he’s made and it’s pretty comedic and straight forward.

I'm sick Peele really gave her the euphoria treatment ?

I enjoyed the first 2 acts but the end is where it fell off really bad. Keke stole the whole file for me.

Spoiler

The UFO design was great until it opened up and looked like a really big kite ? That's when it lost me tbh

I thought the beginning was boring but enjoyed the rest of it. Could’ve worked on the pacing and had a clearer storytelling imo.

Spoiler

The Gordy scene… my god. But I was more terrified by the scene of all those ppl being sucked up and their screams tbh.

Jordan with the back to back to back quality movies, I'm definitely going to watch this one again.  I love how he is able to weave so much symbolism into his films and is still able to make fun of himself.  Some of the lines in this film were just so perfect and on the nose, he just really *gets* it.

It was great. Not sure how ppl didn’t understand Gordy and Jupiter. Very clear message about exploitation and spectacle.

I don't think that's entirely true....but one part of it didn't feel like it added any part to the movie even though it's part of the UNIVERSAL fanfare for some reason :skull:  Me and a guy briefly discussed it after leaving (I said in the elevator "anybody else still confused?") and we couldn't even understand why it was there. It felt like an unnecessary part of the movie altogether, but again - I need to rewatch it and see if maybe it does have a purpose.

Spoiler

Jupiter (Stephen Yuen) has been attempting to tame the UFO by giving it horses to abduct/eat. It killed the dad because it was vomiting debris from Jupiter’s park. Gordy the chimp (and the fist bump) represent Jupiter’s past trauma and subsequent survival that causes him to think he has a special connection with beasts or was “chosen” to wrangle the ufo. While trying to capitalize off of that, he’s fighting demons about the trauma itself, and his greed and need to continue to use spectacle for fame/relevance kills him, not dissimilar to what Hollywood does with traumatized child stars.

Yeah, I kept reading on stuff and I completely understand it now. This movie at its core was a head-scratcher for me at the end but I defintely got it now.

Interesting movie, I agree that the beginning was a bit slow. I'm confused with what was going on with the monkey and the balloons lol. The alien end part was also a bit confusing with how they were looking at it and not being chased

Pros:

That one scene with Gordy.... if you've seen it you know. One of the scariest things I've seen in theaters.

Keke Palmer is EXCELLENT. Always has been always will be.

Brandon Perea is an interesting new talent.

I honestly think for the most part, the non-horror elements of this one far exceed the horror parts, which I don't think is ideal for a horror movie, but did make for an enjoyable watch. There were some great jokes like O.J. looking out of his car and saying the titular line.

Cons:

Daniel Kaluuya's character is extremely boring and forgettable. Steven Yeun is much more compelling and should have been the main focus.

The ending is just... not satisfying. I get that the major themes are exploitation and trying to tame the untamable, which I think is noble, but it seemed like it should have arrived at a different conclusion.

Barbie Ferreira was only in it for marketing which is disappointing.

Wayyyy too many random elements came in that I felt didn't work. The TMZ guy, the cinematographer, the shoe standing up... all potentially interesting on their own but it felt like complete nonsense in practice.

I think I'd give it a 6/10 when all is said and done.
