It felt like an unnecessary part of the movie altogether, but again - I need to rewatch it and see if maybe it does have a purpose. are you talking about the monkey on the movie set scene?

I mean, its pretty explicitly about exploitation, especially in the movie industry and profiting off of abuse. not to mention the analogy of the "spectacle" that actually takes lives and destroys everything. Em and OJ get the footage, but at what cost? Edited July 20, 2022 by ChapelHooker

ALA Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Hmmm I think this would be better on 2nd watch but I honestly wasn't that crazy about it. Well shot but idk if I grasped it fully. Maybe I'll check it out again but idk, probably my least favorite Peele film so far.
ALA Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Also nnn at miss Barbie having like 20 seconds of screentime i thought with her name in the opening credits she had a substantial role mr Brandon Perea was fiiine
xclusivestylesz Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 This is something that needs IMAX? All the IMAX showtimes is sold out for today. Should I wait or just go with regular?
suneclipse121 Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 I LOVED this on a first watch. Honestly his best one imo
Rotunda Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 (edited) It was perfectly fine, but felt very two-dimensional. Solidly acted and entertaining, but I can’t say I left feeling attached to any of the characters - which I think makes the theme/central message less impactful. spoiler Spoiler IMO one of Angel/OJ/Em needed to die by the end for the ending to carry weight. Instead we get some general commentary on the dangers of spectacle, but our core protagonists don’t actually suffer a great consequence for their obsession with it (aside from the trauma of the ordeal itself). Cheers Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Just got back. This was not good My theater was full of people saying this was underwhelming and some people were confused. Angel (Brandon Perea) is SO SO SO fine omg I need a boyfriend like that. I get the whole animal exploitation plot.. but it was not done well, sorry. The Gordy scene just left people more confused. Steven Yeun’s character was pointless. [/quote]
shelven Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Yeah it was decent, but definitely a big step down from both of Peele's previous films. The pacing was honestly a mess and like Rotunda already said above, I didn't really care about any of the characters (except Keke's a little bit but I think that's just because I love Keke ). The social commentary's more interesting than some people are giving it credit for, but it's still way less nuanced and well-executed than the commentary in either Get Out or US.
Cheers Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 I need Brandon to get booked for more roles so let me go lie on Rotten Tomatoes and say it's 100% fantastic! But honestly thinking back on it.. maybe it wasn't so bad. But it wasn't a thriller @ all.
Hector Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Keke Palmer was the best part of the movie. Electric & Dynamite in every scene Very twisted & trippy concept on the whole though it took me a while to get used to the pacing. Spoiler The way Keke saved the day by getting the pictures and that balloon exploding in the creature's stomach The killer monkey scenes
Hilly Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Not me expecting to see the movie this weekend to realize it’ll be out august 12th in the UK i hate it here

Sweetestsecret Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Box office numbers not looking that good if we compare them with 'get out' and 'us' ..

I hope it crosses enough to make some profit. That being said, his next project is definitely gonna have less budget that this one (maybe he just wanted one ambitious project before making low budget movies again).
