It's kind of a mashup tbh. The party is split between two nations and one plays kind of like XC1 while the other is more like XC2. However, there are so many new mechanics (the class system, fusion arts, ouroboros, swapping party members midbattle, etc.) that I don't think it'll feel particularly like either game.
