Congrats to mamdani but I'm trepidatious. Is this just another doomed to fail admin? Is his role to rehabilitate the image of the Democrat party among the youth (while he doesn't enact his policy agenda because he's stonewalled by the Democrat establishment/their corporate donors). I'm skeptical of some of the decisions made by his campaign and his choice of words after the primary, as well as who's in his ear. Told this to my friends in nyc but he's still a politician at the end of the day. A cult of personality and good campaign/successful election isn't enough to make up for actually going to bat against the nyc corporate zionist billionaire machine. If mamdani doesn't succeed, it could have detrimental effects on prog/youth turnout and political enthusiasm/engagement. Y'all forget the dem party cannot exist to have someone like a pre general election campaign Mamdani (who actually sticks to his message/overt explicit "socialist" platform) in their tent. Look at aoc...

Zohran is transformative and an enormous step in the right direction for the democratic party and for the left in American politics. Take the W. Don't prove me right with my prediction that you all will hate him by next year, exceed my expectationsΒ :suburban:

Mamdani is def gonna face challenges governing but this victory is still a huge blow to the establishment's historic grip on the party. The Dem party machine couldn't sway the momentum Mamdani built no matter how much money and power was thrown against Zohran. The tent's mix of ideologies is shifting and something tells me it's not toward the center. :duck:

A step in the right direction for the *Democrat party* is at odds with a step in the right direction for the "left." That several prominent liberal zionists in nyc who ultimately do want to see the continuation of the dem party (and thus support its image reboot in the form of mamdani) and not its *actual* transformation are perfectly fine with him is a big part of the growing mistrust in the more left circles in the DSA... Time will tell. This movie has been shown before with AOC who abandoned her zeal to become a careerist in the dem ranks (only for them to still not want her).

Politicians shouldn't just get "W's" for saying the right things And "running good campaigns." Hope he delivers. He needs to be consistently pressured and held accountable for missteps, especially by his most fervent supporters.Β

Side note: I have to laugh at you pulling up a quote from... Contrapoints... Power SHOULD be endlessly critiqued. That is if you care about policy and not just partisan theater and candidate's social media videos

They're booing you but while i voted for Zohran I'm still weary too, specifically in regards to the police.

A step in the right direction is exactly that, a step.

That's what the news told me.

The aggregate polls had Sherrill winning by 4.6 points, and "Abigail" by 10.5 -> *actual* 13.2 and 15 points. A reverse Anne Selzer experience.

you're really underestimating how insaneΒ it is that someone with zohran's politics is mayor ofΒ new york city and how much of a win for the left this is. this is far, far bigger thanΒ aoc's win in 2018. this was totally unfathomable a year ago and now is a proof point that campaigning on unabashedlyΒ leftist policy againstΒ every establishmentΒ obstacleΒ isΒ viable. yes, he will likelyΒ fail to live up to the full potential of his candidacy because the system is deeplyΒ broken and captalist hell grinds downΒ everyone but let him fail before condemning him as a sell out before he'sΒ even stepped foot into office. like...

Where did I condemn him as a sellout in either of my posts? Also not underestimating this moment but kinda important to not miss the forest for the trees with just one successful campaign and election, especially as hochul and the my state dem party are actively working *right now* to neuter his agenda and zeal. As a mamdani supporter, I still believe folks gotta not fawn over him and actually scrutinize him to make sure he lives up to his platform. Cuz if this whole thing is just meant to pull the wool over our eyes because he won and join in on the partisan theater and start loving the Democrat party again lol, then just say that
